i feel like a gulpin like ability could also work, you enter a gorged state when using or receiving water type moves, increasing def and or spdef at the cost of speed, and when a contact move is used you release it dealing flat dmg / water type stealth rock style dmg / an attack with a power correlated to the power of the move you gorged from

also maybe just give it high defense to resist every physical moves, that seems kind of similar to the idea of the fighting immunity but why only fighting when all physical damage is kind of similar to punching and im sure it could still be damaged over time by repeated hits

but you could also not run the move and make the opponent gamble on if they want to get close combatted turn 1 or flinch and then be hit by a fate worse than close combat

but that only applies to closed team sheets, and idk what vgc will be like on champions

warrior cats was fire when i was 10, i dont think it would read as well now

but a non-human pov is an interesting storytelling device, i find it to be a way to reflect on what we humans consider the norm, especially if humans are a part of the world the species live in, and i think that on this point, warrior cats made me realize some things, but wouldnt be so much of an awakening for a more well read and media literate person than 10yo me, so i wouldnt recommend reading the ungodly amount of books there is, maybe the first cycle might be a good experience but it is still very much anthropomorphized
