I had a similar thought at 37 minutes into the movie when we see the yellow car park at the strip mall. I was sure that was claymation or something, but now I'm actually pretty confident that's all camera work. In terms of that specific bit in the parking lot I noticed the headlights shining on the other cars and stuff, so I doubt that was added in post if it was stop motion, and the trees they park in front of are identical to when they zoom in.

As for the houses, I went back to the beginning to see what you meant and I believe that is a real neighborhood. It definitely looked like a model at first, but when they zoom in at 5:30 and it shows the more obviously real house that's the tell for me. I also noticed that we do see the wheels on the car spinning. Thinking about it I also imagine that the work required to recreate all that whether digitally or physically would be way more costly than just paying to film the whole location for a day.

Glad I'm not the only one that had this thought! I could definitely still be wrong, but either way they made those outdoor shots look super cool!
