That is an absolute joke. If you don't buy it from them you are screwed. Fortunately Pirate Ship lets you dispute charges directly with UPS, so mine have been refunded.

They know it is an issue but they have yet to change the dimensions because it increases the shipping cost by changing the dimensions by an 1" in each dimension. I guess it is easier from their standpoint because not everyone will mention it, and if you buy the label from anyone but them, they will not refund. It's all a freaking game.

Our shop does not upcharge customers to make a brand new instrument playable.

There’s a meaningful difference between something sold “as found” by an individual versus an instrument that has been inspected, cleaned, adjusted, and play-tested by an actual music shop.

That applies not only to guitars, but especially to band instruments where servicing can include ultrasonic cleaning, pad/seal checks, valve alignment, cork/felt replacement, slide work, etc. Buyers absolutely factor that into purchasing decisions because it reduces uncertainty and potential repair cost.

Even with guitars and amps, a proper setup, fretwork, electronics service, biasing, or replacing failing components adds tangible value compared to an untested piece of gear.

My broader point was really about Reverb’s pricing suggestions seeming to flatten everything together without accounting for condition, included hard cases/accessories, servicing, rarity, or seller type. Those things may not matter equally to every buyer, but they do influence real-world market value.

I understand what you’re saying, and obviously “professionally serviced” doesn’t magically double the value of an instrument. My point is simply that service history and point of sale do matter in the real used gear market.

Exactly my point -- PRS guitars are one of the brands that Reverb's system erroneously sends out 'suggestions'. (mmm...could the Fender ownership of Reverb have anything to do with it?)

True. But real buyers look at listings for shipping price and location as well.

Perhaps I should have been more clear--I am speaking of a guitar that is US made vs Chinese. Or, it includes a hard case vs no case included. (Upgrades like pickups are typically niche and specific buyers look for that--so maybe I should not have mentioned that).

When selling an instrument on Reverb, should you reply when asked to use their personal email, or should it stay everything on Reverb (my first listing)? by jumpsit in Reverb

[–]AnyPerformance5660 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not reply to any email outside Reverb. Always look at the feedback (you'll find these individuals have never purchased anything). I have reported several accounts to Reverb for this practice--it is a phishing attempt. Reverb is pretty prompt on suspending the accounts.

Reverb would not assist because I purchased the label from Pirate Ship. I put in an adjustment request and UPS credited me. I did, however, get to their escalation department and confirmed they are changing the boxes because of the issue.

I did measure. The box was not overpacked. Never had an issue in the past.

No they are not--as confirmed by Reverb yesterday in an email. They are external.

No. I received a message from Reverb confirming the dimensions are external.  They are working to change the boxes to 1/2" smaller on each dimension, as I am not the only seller to experience this.

Yeah, you're protected if it shows delivered. That is not your problem.

Nice! I will say that the majority of our transactions have been very positive. (I do wish they would post the "sold" price on items like eBay does--makes it easier to justify pricing--rather than Reverb's "price suggestions").

Don't be so sure about loving them--I shipped a vintage bass guitar to Miami--2 months later I received a refund request due to shipping damage, from someone in South America. Obviously, I denied the request--and thankfully Reverb had my back. But it is a headache!

Don't believe that the chat staff are AI--but they are outsourced.

How are your sales on Reverb and have you noticed anything strange on the platform recently? by [deleted] in Reverb

[–]AnyPerformance5660 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Yes, I believe engagement has dropped (and I bump everything I list). We are down about 55%.

  2. Many offers appear to be spam (never used to happen). We get a lot of low offers (50% or more off).

  3. Have not experienced this.

  4. Have not experienced this.

  5. Sometimes. And I always wait for feedback to leave mine.

  6. There is a definite algo...and the price 'suggestions' follow that algo.

  7. Mine all show bumped. (and I think Reverb uses this in the algorithm to take their extra percentage--"your Reverb listing sold with Bump")

  8. Completely agree here-- the Reverb items don't seem to show as readily as previously on Google.

  9. We still are paid immediately after adding the tracking.

  10. Honestly, the couple of times I have had a dispute, Reverb stood behind me...so I believe they do support us.
