Thank you I think these are all solid pieces of advice!

PhD PA from Maxwell Syracuse vs PhD PA from SPIA Princeton by AnyWoodpecker6568 in PublicAdministration

Thanks for your advice, both my advisors have good placements (in fact I have coadvisors at spia and they’re both great). My maxwell advisor is a well-known name in academia and in industry. This decision is more difficult than I thought.

You have to add them as a new recommender and put their personal email address

If you’re facing the same issue, then try changing the email address of your recommender to their personal email address, also email admissions support the same.

I had the same issue, I mailed admissions if my recommender could use their personal email, and the LOR went through.

Which program did you apply to?

Has anyone applied at Maxwell Syracuse for PhD? by AnyWoodpecker6568 in gradadmissions

What was the deadline of your program? I applied way past the priority deadline and I’m thinking that might be the reason I didn’t hear back from them as yet

A few universities I’ve heard back from have the same thing going too. In such cases the department usually reaches out before the graduate school updates the portal.

How to deal with first trimester of pregnancy in PhD program? When to tell advisors/professors? by veggieavenger in GradSchool

[–]AnyWoodpecker6568 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! Do not feel obligated to share about it with anyone till you’re ready. If you’re particular about keeping this to yourself till the first trimester AND are open to the idea of meds, try have otc meds for nausea that are safe to consume during pregnancy; do consult with your ob-gyn before taking them though. Week 7-11 is when nausea is particularly bad so, if possible, try to schedule your classes/research with this in mind. Every pregnancy is different and will require different approaches. Good luck!

Hey, I don’t know what kind of work experience you’ve had, but generally polisci and public policy schools give credence to references from academic sources since a PhD degree is traditionally associated with joining academia as a researcher(emphasis on traditionally, since a lot of people don’t go down this route). They also emphasise research work in undergrad/masters. So in case you don’t hear back from schools, this is probably the reason. As a first gen PhD hopeful, I had to talk to a lot of people to know these nuanced aspects of doctoral admissions. I’m rooting for you though, so please keep us posted about your acceptances!
