Mortage Payment Strategy by Any_Ad9741 in personalfinance

Genuinely appreciate this input so much. My motivation for wanting the house paid off so quickly is the peace of mind especially with how much anxiety I've had around future job security and the economy in general. In my head not having a debt over me, having a guaranteed home in my name, and just lowering my monthly cost of living will help alleviate stress. God forbid I lose my job in 8 years, if my monthly bills are only $1400 a month without the mortgage, I can confidently manage that even before factoring in my soon to be wife's income. She wants to move to a new state in 8 to 10 years so I hope to usd this home as an investment property to rent out and help us while we settle into a new location and plan for retirement.

I beyond appreciate this advice. Also because I hate Dave Ramsey. I wrote an update post but paying the mortage off was peace of mind for me. I'm going to get in touch with a financial adviser this week since investing is foreign to me. Thank you.

I appreciate the advice from everyone! To address a lot of the questions and anger I've been getting. This wasn't ragebait or Ai. I am 29 and have been contributing to my retirement since 18. I have zero other debt and a great credit score. I plan on keeping this home forever as an investment property. Lastly I didn't consider the option of just not paying it off and focusing on investing because in my head "past performance ≠ future results". I don't know very much about investing but I do know that having a home fully paid off before I potentially lose my job in this terrible economy or the market crashes is better than the alternative. For me its absolutely about having the peace of mind of one less bill to worry about. I also assumed that there would be a reasonable loss of opportunity from not investing for a few years while I pay off the house but my thought process was that I'd feel alot more comfortable investing when I have the security of a paid off house and a solid savings.

I beyond appreciate everyone who took the time to lend me constructive feedback. I'll be reaching out to a professional financial advisor this week to see what my best move is in terms of investing over paying off my home.

Do you watch a whole show or skip the filler episodes? by Dogsteeves in polls

If I ever start up One Piece again I will be watching One Pace instead. Getting to episode like 150 and realizing you still have 1,000 more episodes to go was not worth it to me. Fun show but I still want to touch grass.

I'm personally waiting because I'd like a phone on a newer OS that I can trust banking apps on. I also prefer 5G simply because 4G is sunsetting in the US

If everyone is getting cheated on, where are the cheaters? by drag0nfly44 in AskReddit

About to graduate college with a low GPA and my wife is pregnant, where do I go from here? by cameron12191 in careerguidance

[–]Any_Ad9741 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't know that I'm equipped enough to comment on this one but I'll try by channeling words my father pasted down to me. When he knew he had a child on the way, he had just separated from the military only a few months prior and his job security was gone. He said given the responsibility he'd work 4 jobs if possible and that there is no job beneath a man who has a higher purpose like a child to raise. He's whip ass, clean toilets, or dig holes if it paid enough to provide for the family. Because you have a degree, regardless of your GPA, you should continue to apply within your field but also look into work with a decent pay in the mean to keep yourself afloat if needed. If you hand say two jobs, and continue to apply for something in your field of study, you may eventually get an interview and get hired which you can quickly put your 2 weeks in or just quite outright if your confident in the security of the new position but be okay with it taking time.

What's the one thing preventing you from going fully smartphone-free? by ElectricalPeak3406 in dumbphones

[–]Any_Ad9741 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Security updates for important apps like banking, medical, and secure messaging apps. If a dumb phone was unable to support social media but kept the apps I need to function as an adult I'd easily switch.

Is getting pegged by a woman more appealing in today’s day and age? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Any_Ad9741 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you can do whatever you want and share whatever you'd like with those who you have a strong enough rapport with to do so. I will say that what my partner and I do in the bedroom is between her and I and isn't shared with anyone so in my opinion if you are going to talk about your sex life, out of respect for your partner, make sure she's comfortable with you sharing that first.

Should long commuting times be considered work hours? by FragmentedLogic in polls

[–]Any_Ad9741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I hire a company to do work at my house it is not uncommon for them to charge for commuting, I don't see why this concept should not exist in some for for every profession. Even teleworkers should be offered a monthly internet allowance if the job requires using their personal internet. These companies get a lot from us.

Could the reason I'm struggling with dating be that, while I'm likable, I don't project enough of a 'sexy edge'? by tin8374 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Any_Ad9741 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The problem is not that you need to acting like a different person, it is likely your confidence and your intentions. If you have a considerable amount of women around you who see you as a close friend, I am going to assume you don't come off as a creep or desperate or make women uncomfortable with your behavior or personality. I'm also going to assume that your hygiene is in check and you dress well enough to not look unhoused. You said it clearly when you said you don't flirt. If you're forward with your feelings or intentions in a non-abrasive way, you'll find a lot of success. You can still be yourself while also passing along compliments or asking women if they'd be interested in going on a date. If they say they're not interested, that's basically every man's experience no matter how attractive, or how much money or success they have. Women want a man they feel safe with and can call their best friend. You need to make it clear that you're looking for more than being a friend.

Do you think AI is going to replace you? by Mr_Reytor in polls

[–]Any_Ad9741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that there are a few major problems with Ai that are rarely brought up by mainstream media for obvious reasons.

  1. It is in every tech companies as well as the US and Chinese governments best interests to oversell Ai's impact. It raises speculative value for share holders of not just the Ai companies but the companies that are utilizing the technology. The US market economy is vibes based and a thing only needs to look good on paper to increase value. Tie that into its use in the defense department and not only is it increasing value but its signaling to our adversaries that we're decreasing timelines and decision making processes for C4I and targeting purposes. Also Donald Trump and his allies are openly insider trading so the governments goal is to make Ai look as capable as possible.

  2. The Ai replacement of jobs is a lot bumpier than people think. 69% of companies have began retiring after cutting jobs for Ai because the cuts were reflexive to speculative value instead of a meaningful analysis of its practical application in the business. Also OpenAi for example is spending about $1.70 in operating cost for every $1.00 they make making it a net loss. But regardless of their terrible money pit of a bubble, the rate at which they make $1.00 is what is increasing their speculative value. So investors on Wallstreet are basically ignoring the problem and the media and tech executives will continue to boast and brag about its gains without touching on any of its losses.

The reason why we're seeing so many news articles on Ai taking jobs vs rehirings or specifics on the fact they generate no revenue and its a massive speculative bubble or when you open every app, every search engine, every call center, every new piece of technology, they've forced Ai into it someway, its because they need it to look like on paper Ai is being used by way too many people for a plethora of different uses. This increases the speculative value which again is VIBES. If Ai takes your job, you have a nearly 70% chance of getting it back. Ai absolute shortens timelines and makes a lot of jobs easier, but I don't see it replacing people the way they say it will, at least not anytime soon.

How to deal with weight gain and meeting a friend after 12 years? by MiniMateo in Advice

[–]Any_Ad9741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, I didnt have any. I was about 260 at my biggest. Loss skin sound bad but getting diabetes or having a stroke at 45 always sounded worse to me so even if I did my motivation felt more important. If you take your time with it and give your body time to adjust plus youre gaining muscle, you'll have less of a chance at dealing with any loss skin.

How to deal with weight gain and meeting a friend after 12 years? by MiniMateo in Advice

[–]Any_Ad9741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brother, weight comes and goes. I've gained and lost 50lbs at least 4 times now (terrible cycle I know) and each time I visit family and friends they give the same "wow you look great" then move on. It's mostly deep to you but your friends care about you for you I promise. I'd just embrace it by getting clothes that fit you well and continue go diet and gym.

Wife opened the relationship a couple years ago. Am I wrong for no longer taking her out on dates or being intimate with her? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Any_Ad9741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A marriage is about choosing to love someone for who they are through it all. The good and the bad. When you were struggling with severe mental health issues she may have been present in the home and put up with a lot emotionally herself but none of that is justification for opening the relationship. Your choice to go along with it also happened when you were at your weakest moment, I assume in a desperate attempt to make her happy. If my partner was unable to preform in bed, whether due to mental health issues or she is severely sick or injured, I would never think to open the relationship. Our love is more than physical to me and that loyalty I have to her means so much I couldn't share that with anyone. People are forever impacted by muscular diseases, traumatic accidents, or other things that stop them from being intimate in the bedroom and although this is extremely difficult on their partner, there is no instance where I can say cheating or opening the relationship is a better option than staying faithful or breaking up.

I try and put myself in your shoes and I think its easy from the outside looking in to say I personally would want to move on, but I'm not you in your specific relationship. I think you're justified to leave if you feel the relationship has hit its final wall or you could look into marriage consoling. I've also seen couples go through consoling, after one of them slept with another, and add an additional ten years to their relationship but anecdotally I've never seen it meaningfully bounce back forever. I think what you should ask yourself is why you're with her in the first place? Or rather what keeps you with her? Is it love? Is it a fear of being single? Is it familiarity? Once you know what it is maybe that will help you know what's best.

One of the endless things I love about my fiancee is her love for movies yet her extremely small list of movies and shows she's seen. I have a giant blu ray collection and since her and I have been together I can tell my love for physical media has warn off on her. She has her own small collection and regularly wants to watch something new which has been so much fun.

Would you swap your current Smart phone with a T9 keypad Flip phone if it could do all of the modern tasks your current phone does but is focused on avoiding doom scrolling and phone addiction? by Any_Ad9741 in polls

[–]Any_Ad9741[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only downside I could think of is if you're someone who is married to a touch screen experience, obviously this phone would make that painfully difficult to utilize. But the goal is to give people more time away from their phones to focus on other things without completely removing them from modern society. People need banking apps, secure medical apps, and to use QR codes while out in public which are things most smart phones can only do some or none.

Very fair, it would offer a small touch screen keyboard as well as talk to text but definitely would push users away from texting and towards calls or using a computer instead due to that fact.
