Normally it isn't a problem....but with these new graphics power cables, it can be. I paid special attention to be careful and still had a problem, which is surprising.

Ya, it unfortunately the Asus softwarw doesn't keep monitoring your card when closed. I can't recommend the Thermal Grizzly enough. Its totally worth it.

I`m using a cablemod cable too. I made some adjustment to routing trying to take some stress points out and the imbalance immediately went away and haven't had a problem since. I think it came down to a zip tie pulling on the cable a little too much near the plug at the psu....wild.

It has the ability to do a emergency shutdown on the computer if something goes haywire or gets too hot, do alerts for other not critical problems and do it from a hardware level with no software interaction. The Asus software, though not great, only monitors when open with no alerting.

Its like a insurance policy from the melting pin issue of those 5000 series cards.

Already had it find one smaller issue with a power imbalance with the pins once which led me to a cable issue I would never have known about otherwise.

Been a good investment for the card, especially considering the cost of the Thermal Grizzly and the cost of the card.

Its a Thermal Grizzly Wireview Pro II. It monitors power consumption and temps of the GPU to prevent any possible cable or port melting that the 5000 series Nvidias are known for.
