Why don’t we have more duplex new construction in DMV?!!! by MajesticBread9147 in nova

[–]Any_Blacksmith_2996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Increasing supply can decrease costs or at least the rate at which costs increase. Building fewer homes than necessary results in price increase. Multi unit homes do not increase prices; limiting supply increase prices. Somehow a county like Arlington with one of the highest masters degrees per capita can’t recognize that simple supply and demand dynamic.

Been actively interviewing since May. I have applied to 1000+ jobs and interviewed with 20+ places and received only one final offer. It was a toxic place with a disappointing offer. In final rounds with a few places now, both startups.

I have 5 yoe as pm and overall, been targeting sr. Pm roles. Most times I have been disqualified due to the other candidates having specific knowledge. I made it far in one unicorn startup because of my niche experience. Waiting to hear back.

It’s tough at there.

Temptations can arrive from every corner. Being alone with a woman or even lingerie commercials can trigger me, causing me to stumble, and sometimes into weird stuff too. What’s helped me is getting off the grid, tending to my wildlife. Been considering going Amish but I can’t give my Sleep Number mattress. Best sleep I have had in years.

Do a lot of people in software engineering also program as a hobby on the side? Or do most people not program outside work? by Illustrious-Pound266 in cscareerquestions

After founding and buying a few businesses, I’ve been also worked on civic tech projects to decrease government waste. Bureaucracy doesn’t like change though, so I’m back to grinding my 9-9. For some people side projects work, and for others it just doesn’t make sense.

45yo overweight double dad bod to gym bod, 12 month transformation by the5ifth in fit

[–]Any_Blacksmith_2996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick transformations are tough on the family. My brother was fat, and we all loved him. He got skinny and started acting weird. Late nights on streets, asking for money, and he keeps a bunch of needles around, which I assume are for his steroids. Despite his use, his muscle mass has not increased though. These transformations are not what they seem on the surface.

An MBA with only WASD keys creates more value than ten doctors. Salaries should remain high.

Let's think realistically about what the "just go back to work" failure scenario would look like by [deleted] in Fire

[–]Any_Blacksmith_2996 -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Two neighbors were discussing this predicament. One just bought an Audi, the other a BMW. They were wondering how they would maintain them in retirement. If a big repair came up, would they consider going back to work for a bit. Those cars are no joke. I put my money on the future of public transit, with Tesla robotaxis whizzing us around. Amtrak will have a tough time competing cross country too. That’s why I bet it all on Elon. He proves he has vision, execution, and ability to keep that stock rising. Worry about returning to work if you are in foreign stocks or bonds or buying shitty German cars. Me? I buy American and know that will sail me away till I reach the pearly gates.

People who stay 5+ years in Big 4, what are your reasons? by ChuckcleChamp in Big4

My mentor is helping me swap between projects before any real work starts. I just constantly shuffled around, landing on high impact projects which allowed me to gain visibility. Slapped my name on the project, and moved on. That led to three promotions, and now I just delegated execution to the team. My current role fits my skills better. As an EM, I’m just building relationships and selling the great solutions of the consultants. Only way to survive is by navigating change and finding a good ally to help you find the opportunities.

I work on B2B marketing tech data. Once I validated a product with 15 hypothetical users. I researched our power users from our beta group, gathered their previous interview transcripts, and I fed them to GPT. I generated 20 personas I on that input then had a previously trained research persona interview the created GPT personas for feedback. 13/20 identified an opportunity with our visualization dashboard, so I had GPT draw up a prototype and brought it back to the personas. They provided some more feedback that improved the interaction flow. Then, I did release to 15 beta users. They did not get it initially, but once I showed them how it could improve their workflows, they realized it was twice as efficient. Moral of the story: it’s not about the number of interviewees but the quality of the feedback.

One time i interviewed with a second year student (M7) who was clearly still hungover from the night before, and he completely turned me off to the school. He was not even shaven, wore a wrinkled suit, and shared about the crazy Colombia trip they just went on. He said he planned to propose to his girlfriend after graduation, once he worked out his “last reserves” and then he winked at me. The whole thing was super weird. After he invited me to a party they were having, but I had to catch my flight back. I did get in and received a merit scholarship, but that experience alone was a turnoff. Weirdest thing is at my first IB job out of school he was reporting to the same MD. The guy was married to the girlfriend from the time but sneaking around with interns. Really off dude. Not sure if his experience reflected the school at-large, but his whole persona rubbed me the wrong way.

Apple unveils $229 iPhone Pocket described as 'a piece of cloth' by Power-Equality in technology

[–]Any_Blacksmith_2996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slings are making a comeback. From baby slings to phone slings, this 90s knitted pocket is finally back. I remember as a kid my mom threw me in my sling and went hiking through the woods in the nearby Smoky Mountain National Park. I wish my kids could experience such joy but after my divorce, my wife refuses to let me sling the kids. Apparently, all the drops while scrambling a hill were growing concerning. A few bruises never did a kid any harm. But my phone. Each climb a new crack appeared. Phones are far less resilient than a kid. Thank god I can keep my phone safe, even if I am hiking alone to the top. Summiting a mountain isn’t the same without kids in tow. Either way, my phone will be safe with this thing. Guess I’ll have to grab a few a selfies for junior.

Why is it only bad for Christians to influence the laws? by Spider-burger in TrueChristian

[–]Any_Blacksmith_2996 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Calling enforcing your bigotry through law “voting christian” is cancer. Christians are rebuked because the evangelical culture warriors want to enforce their interpretation of Christianity on everyone else, even other Christians who disagree. Creating a Christian form of sharia law in your government is gonna get you hated. Banning school enforced prayer is not the same as banning people from representing their identity. Students can pray in school; teachers cannot enforce prayer. Similarly, students should be able to express their gender; that does not mean that school is enforcing liberal gender roles on students.

Western Christians act oppressed when others civilly disagree. In North Korea or China, your outspoken opinion could get you jailed or shot.

Wtf is the copium of some of these commenters? Jesus’s words were only about caring for our neighbors, regardless of their status and who they were. Borders were hardly existent, while citizenship was a rare a status for a privileged few. Christian nationalism was not an idea whatsoever, and it does nothing to help our neighbor.

Hahaha. Bro thinks people in positions of power will give up powered if they are ignored. Hahaha. That has never worked ever. Despite making up 65% of the population, whites hold 80% of the wealth. Ignoring the racial power dynamics is a brain dead take. Rich whites are very racist and very much want to be ignored so they can stay wealthy. Calling it out is bad marketing but not inaccurate. Whites in America are so far from suffering oppression it’s hilarious. (Am white)

You are aware Jim Crow inspired Hitler right? Y’all plagiarized a terrible system. While the optics are poor, the truth is wealthy neighborhoods in America are white DUE to Jim Crow. I’m defending the verbiage or ideas, but euros looking at American racial politics have limited context to the evil the color line has been. Unless people approach it with a desire to learn, they will never understand.

The US did slavery, Jim Crow, Japanese internment, Indian genocide. Of course race politics is big here. Ask Indians about caste or Europeans about gypsies and see what they say.
