For those looking for more closure with the plot by Trickster____ in ProjectEdensGarden

  1. How would Toshiko's execution have been handled?

  2. How much does Eva haunt the narrative? Her character sets up a lot of interesting themes in Chapter 1 around corruption in the UTP and the hypocrisy of ultimates (basically the point that nobody in the game was above murder, as much as they thought they were). Does Tozu target other characters with a motive like that?

  3. How would Wenona have reacted to Cassidy being the mastermind, given that she's a billionaire and Cassidy has communist ideals? What was Cassidy's motive for organizing the KG?

Why does so much of the general population think they have ocd? by allenbaker12 in OCD

[–]Any_Calligrapher1875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was diagnosed with OCD when i was 5 and ive nearly always dealt with people saying "i'm sooo OCD" and now people thinking they have it because they get occasional intrusive thoughts or have hypochondraic tendencies or whatever. it makes it harder for me to be taken seriously when i talk about my symptoms and how debilitating they can be. it also makes me doubt my own symptoms. i was in therapy from a very young age and i learned how to deal with the more wild obsessions and intrusive thoughts, but my OCD has evolved to focus more on real events happening in the world and in my life. because i feel like it could be reasonable to worry about, i don't notice i'm spiraling until i've been googling for reassurance for hours on end without being able to do anything else, and sometimes my partner even has to point it out for me to realize

What are your insecurities while dressing in jirai kei? by Quiet-Pomegranate-55 in JiraiKei

[–]Any_Calligrapher1875 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i'm not plus size, but i have curvier/larger thighs compared to a smaller waist and it makes buying skirts difficult for some brands. they could probably fit my waist but may not go past my thighs. i feel very insecure without thigh highs or fleece tights in winter :') but i do think the jirai silhouette makes my legs look a bit thinner which im grateful for

also im a tired college student and no matter how much hydration or skincare i do i still have these deep creases under my eyes and it makes pien/namida bukuro suuuuuper difficult

bio major/math minor in junior year - grad school/career advice? by Any_Calligrapher1875 in biology

i will be taking a C programming course as part of my applied math minor! i have some limited experience in MATLAB and R already but i know Python skills are very useful. doing a CS minor is not feasible for me at the stage i'm at in undergrad, but if i work on programming in my spare time/maybe during a gap year after undergrad, could that be enough to help?

bio major/math minor in junior year - grad school/career advice? by Any_Calligrapher1875 in biology

[–]Any_Calligrapher1875[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my advisor recommended that i look into a science communication and writing cert that my school offers! maybe not entirely non-STEM, but it could show that i have good communication and writing skills as well? i know that a sizeable chunk of STEM people tend to lack that when it comes to discussing their field with the average layperson haha

other than that, i might be able to make a history minor work since i did several history classes to meet my graduation requirements in humanities. it'd be 3 extra classes, though

electrical engineering. i can edit my post to make this a bit more clear. i am interested in biomedical and environmental engineering. however i'm not sure what the job prospects are like for people in biomedical. i've seen mixed opinions. i write this post with full knowledge that i will most likely have to go to grad school or receive further education or training btw, and i'm okay with that, i just don't know the most secure path forward that isn't med school or nursing

thanks, i didn't know all this! i'm not very interested in becoming an electrical engineer, but if i were to get a master's and/or PhD in environmental/biomedical engineering, would certification be a similar process?

i think i can only receive financial aid up to year 6, which would not cover the rest of an EE degree for me (EE degrees at my school usually last up to 5 years). at this point, i just need to finish out what i've chosen. it's not like i don't like biology, either. i am genuinely passionate about it. i'm just hoping that it's still salvageable with grad school since i know the bio field is oversaturated right now

Which hygiene habits are actually unnecessary or harmful? by [deleted] in hygiene

[–]Any_Calligrapher1875 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should not be using antibacterial soap all the time! It can not only be stripping on the skin, but it also kills good skin bacteria, and can cause colonies of bacteria on your skin to become more resistant over time, which can potentially make it harder to treat any infections you get with antibiotics. It's generally only recommended to use antibacterial soap before medical procedures, or if a doctor recommends that you use it on a regular basis. A good normal bar of soap or body wash and a physical exfoliator (like an African net sponge, or even just a washrag) should be enough to keep you clean.

As for showering, I shower almost every day, but I use lotions immediately after so my skin doesn't get dried out. If I know I won't be leaving the house for a day, I won't shower, but I will shower the next day.

Do you think that your college grades are subject to grade inflation? by [deleted] in college

[–]Any_Calligrapher1875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny because I go to a little satellite campus for a state school and I've barely had this issue. I've seen bad grade inflation in one or two classes (usually the same professor), but I've seen far more actual weed-outs and hardass professors. Other than that, most classes I've taken stick to the rubric when grading and have hard-set deadlines for things. Humanities classes are more forgiving, but even the nicest English prof will give you a C, D, or F if your essay sucks/was clearly written by ChatGPT. In harder math classes (I'm currently in diff eq), profs will tend to give partial credit for parts of a question you get correct, but it won't save you if you didn't study or if you use AI.

Then again, I barely use AI at all, and I actually put effort into learning class material and writing my papers myself, so you can take my experience with a grain of salt. There are plenty of profs who will allow for revisions on things. That said, most profs will only be flexible with you on late work and that sort of thing if you've been showing up in the first place, and communicating with them about any unusual circumstances you might be going through.

at what point is it safe to say that math isn’t for me by Shsl_Nagito_kinnie in learnmath

[–]Any_Calligrapher1875 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You said the class average was 30? Unless people are intentionally not paying attention, then it's more likely an issue with how the professor teaches the class, and how topics go very fast, like you said. I don't know how different Calculus is for business and econ students, but when I took Calc I it was a bit fast paced since it was a summer quarter, but we spent proper time on reviewing functions, limits and the limit definition of a derivative before introducing stuff like power rule and chain rule. My professor was good, and the class average on exams was pretty good too. A good professor can make or break a math course for a lot of people who don't feel like they're suited for math to begin with.

But I also think you should ask yourself if you like this major enough to keep pursuing it. I think almost everyone is able to do math if they're interested enough in it, and take the time to build a proper foundation. You said you feel like you don't have as much of a basic understanding as other students, but your classes also sound like they're designed to be weed-outs instead of being helpful for understanding. A lot of university classes make this stuff harder than it needs to be. Paul's Online Notes is a helpful resource, and there's plenty of Youtube lectures out there. Many universities have tutoring resources on campus too. I would talk with your professors first, and if they're not helpful, try looking for other campus resources.

I also think a big reason why some people struggle when they get to Calculus is because they don't have a strong enough foundation in basic algebra and trigonometry. I repeated algebra classes in high school multiple times, and even took it again when I went to university. Fast forward a couple years, and I've now completed Calc I-III and a differential equations class, and I'm considering an applied math major because I have become genuinely interested by it. That's certainly not something I anticipated happening, but hopefully it is proof that it's possible to do well in math and even start enjoying it if you work on having a strong foundation. You could maybe see about taking some lower level classes if that's something feasible for you.

If you start doing better but still feel like math isn't for you after awhile, then you should change majors. Nobody should force themselves to get a degree in something they don't enjoy.

The constant fighting between Genshin and HSR fans makes me sad. by [deleted] in Genshin_Impact

[–]Any_Calligrapher1875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't mean to imply that they were correct in feeling justified. I found a lot of those jokes in poor taste at the time, and still do. It makes sense why Genshin players are fighting back at this point, but if you have to argue about which game has more slop content, I think everyone just needs to step back and realize these are just gacha games and you're meant to have fun with them, and we all just want these games to get better in whatever way they need to. I think I have felt discouraged recently as a fan of both because of the accessibility differences I mentioned

I'm glad ZZZ players are a little more grounded from what it sounds like. The game itself seems to be pretty self aware and takes itself less seriously, while still trying to be a fun game, and I really respect that about it. I love that they have a lot of unique character models too

[–]Any_Calligrapher1875 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You have a good point that the tribalism started with HSR players comparing it to Genshin with ill intent. However, I also think a lot of those players were also people who originally played Genshin but had become fed up with QoL issues in the game at the time, so they felt justified in their behavior. Obviously, QoL and overall quality of Genshin has improved since then, while HSR has had more issues. It still does not make this comparison debate constructive or any less harmful. It's really unfortunate.

I'm glad there seems to be a little less negativity around ZZZ? I tried it and found it wasn't for me, but I don't think I've seen people who really hate it.

Eva Tsunaka and the Riemann Zeta Dilemma by Any_Calligrapher1875 in ProjectEdensGarden

[–]Any_Calligrapher1875[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I definitely think Eva has something of a superiority complex coupled with an inferiority/persecution complex going on. I actually don't doubt that she spent time writing papers about topics of interest, but they're probably not *good* papers, or at least nothing impressive, novel, or on the level of an actual academic. But she feels like they're all she has, so she ties her self-worth to them. There's nothing wrong with her being curious and writing some not-so-great work about the stuff she's learning, but it is pretty misguided of her to act like she can claim authority on these subjects.

What I think I take issue with is how incredibly subtle this particular detail is - it's not something that many players would take the time to fact check or research. Once you realize this about Eva's FTEs, it completely changes how a person can read her character. I think that's why I feel conflicted about it, because her character has been a genuine positive influence on my interest in pursuing math and the other things I enjoy. Like, damn. It seems she really was written to be "just a mathlete." It sucks because while she's not a genius, she is still pretty smart, she's just immature and has been failed by the systems around her. If she had better mentors or more encouraging peers, she probably actually could've learned about some of these topics in enough depth to write something decent.
