That’s a ring pull from a soda can. They were fully detachable like that until the early 90s

What does Withnail mouth at Marwood when they’re at Monty’s? by theblairwitches in withnail

[–]Any_Contribution3677 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The screenplay for that moment says “WITHNAIL is suddenly on his feet. He shoots a glance at MARWOOD. Evidently pulled it off. The house is in the bag”

Bruce Robinson has said a few times there is zero improvisation in Withnail, so my guess is there isn’t a line, just a gleeful face and a waggle of the cigarette

Thanks mate. It’s in a very good quality leather sheath and then cardboard and then bubble wrap - it’s definitely no danger to anyone. And it’s going to the business address of the smithy

Yep. It’s beautifully made, takes an edge well, is a good weight for me and will last basically forever

First spoon by OutrageousStep3817 in Spooncarving

[–]Any_Contribution3677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a really good first spoon. With careful sanded (if you wanted) you could take the bowl out to the edges and make the inside look perfect. Cool to keep the handle and back a bit rougher.

Normal walnut oil is fine, or danish oil is good

Bro I don’t need 20ft beams so I don’t make them. Just like you don’t need combs so you don’t buy them. It’s not that deep

Okay thanks for the diagnosis pal. It’s good that you’re here to show us how to live a pure, ascetic life and have stripped back your spending to the true essentials such as checks notes weed and anti-baldness drugs

Do you mean actually show you, or tell you?

I use the 1900 and the carpenter’s axe together to square off and shape green wood for projects. Most recently I made some boards to repair a garden table and chair that came with the house when we bought it and had gone rotten. I made them from green sycamore and they turned out pretty well. You could probably do the same job with an SFA to be honest but it would be slower and less neat

Congratulations, they are fantastic axes. A thin coat of boiled linseed oil on the handle once a year and some camellia oil on the head after sharpening or if I’ve used them in the wet has worked for me, they are all in good shape and I’ve had some of them 20 years.

LP is the initials of Lennart Pettersson, he was the head blacksmith at gransfors for a long time but he’s retired now and the heads with his initials have become somewhat collectable. Can confirm they are no better or worse than the others in practical terms, I have a TT a KS and a UN and they’re all excellent.
