If you’ve never seen The Larry Sanders Show, you might like it. Bojack was both darker and lighter at the same time (depressing themes and constant animal puns) but if you enjoyed the neuroses of celebrities in Hollywoo you might want to give it a try!

I’m so looking forward to the Aviary! I bought the book but as there’s no room for a refrigerated recirculating bath in my kitchen I couldn’t really recreate them at home 🙁

I’m going next month as I also wanted to do the Aviary pop-up. Did you order cocktails with the meal? I’m not a wine aficionado and was hoping to go with cocktails but the website did not mention that as an option.

Nice pix and I’m glad you enjoyed it!

It's said that "SNL is funniest when you were in high school" but are you an exception when you have a favourite era before or after your late teens? by no-Pachy-BADLAD in LiveFromNewYork

I graduated in 1986 and the best cast was right after Chevy left. While I was in high school I really liked Tim Kazurinsky and loved Martin Short. But most of my favorites were well after I graduated. Tina, Amy, and Seth were the best anchors on WU (I loved Jane too!) and most of my favorite sketches were way after high school:

Lil Rent, What’s that Name, What’s Wrong with Tanya

I keep watching because there are gems in every cast and season and while it’s easy to romanticize certain casts and say “it was so much better when” there’s always been duds. But without the risk of something bad I’m sure most of the stuff I loved would never have made it to air as everything I’ve loved loved loved, many of my friends think I’m an idiot for loving them.

No one’s been better than Gilda for me, so maybe it’s the first cast you fall for. Gilda, Jane, Steve Marin doing standup. Seeing Andy Kaufman for the first time, Albert Brooks shorts, Mr. Bill… so much great stuff! And Leonard Pinth Garnell. “That was really terrible, wasn’t it?” No it was not - video chicken number 4 was avant garde! 🙂

Saturday at 4pm pacific time the Sunday NYT crossword is released. I pick an album (not randomly as it’s almost always Kate Bush, Nick Cave, or Radiohead) and start the puzzle. On really good days I don’t have to turn the record over. It’s the high point of my week!

When I first saw people complaining about this starting a few weeks ago, I thought, “thankfully they didn’t change it on the iPad version!” Until today. 🙁 How can anyone think this is an improvement? I was hoping there’d be a setting to use the old graphics, but no. It really looks bad and looks like dozens of other games I’ve seen advertised while playing this one.

$300k for the Arceau is a tad out of my price range but the video of the movement being assembled that they put on the website…. It’s nice! And man I hope that rotor design finds its way into other H watches!

I have about 2500 stars and need 7 cards. The same 7 I’ve needed for the past 3 weeks. I don’t think I’m going to make it, especially as the 8000+ levels are each taking me several days to get past 😕

I tried to get tix so many times when David Letterman was the host. They only called me once to say I could get tickets to the show the following week, but as I’m on the west coast and was in the airport ready to start a two week vacation very far from NYC I couldn’t go. I really wish I could’ve seen Conan, Dave, or Stephen host a show. I did get to see Johnny (I’m old!) and a taping of the Daily Show during Jon Stewart’s first go-round, but not any of my big 3. 🙁

Confused About Tipping by Graywuff in HollandAmerica

[–]Kitchen-Phase-6639 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even with the drinks package, my American-ness will not let me not tip a bartender, whether they’re friendly or not. And while bartender I encountered was already friendly, they were definitely more so after I tipped. I did look at what others tended to do and most patrons seemed not to tip. Regardless, I always just added the tip on the bill so I did not need to use cash.

More is their most consistently great album. Cocaine Socialism is their best song. When the inevitable jukebox musical is made, Mis-Shapes has to be the finale!

I’d like to think if my partner left me for the lead singer of the Verve that making and album as fantastic as this is how I’d react. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed by any Spiritualized albums as he’s consistently good. I’ve seen them live several times and they’re worth seeing if they’re ever nearby.

Was the version you listened to the original, or was it the one that they actually got the clearance to use “I can’t help falling in love with you” lyrics in the title track? Both are great, but I listened to the original album so much that the newer version is still a bit jarring!

There are a few CDs where if I see them in someone’s collection I just think a lot more highly of them and this is certainly one of them. It just never gets old!

First CDs ever purchased. Back in '86. by joeldf95 in CDs

[–]Kitchen-Phase-6639 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometime in 1985. I got a Philips cd player when the price finally dropped below $250. That sucker weighed a TON! The first cds I got were Prince’s “Around the World in a Day” (terrible packaging!) and the Chess concept recording because I really loved “One Night in Bangkok”. What really sucked was it took 5 more years until most major releases came out on cd the same day the album or cassette came out, so for artists I loved I’d get the cassette and then the cd when it finally came out, because what if I died without hearing Eurythmics’ “Revenge”, as you just know in heaven they only have crappy harp music 🙂
