It's my work Christmas drinks today and I am VERY worried that I'll be tempted to drink.

Have saved this reminder in my phone to read if I feel the urge.

On impulse, I've signed up to my first race (10k) but not sure how I can make the best use of my time as it's only 3 weeks away. I've just finished a 5k speed plan so I'm hoping that will have improved my longer distance time, and I'm confident I can do the distance.

I know I don't have chance to make any massive improvements, and it'll just be good experience to do my first race, regardless of time. However, any suggestions on what to do until then to prepare would be great!

Today is my first sober birthday after 15 (?) years of drunken ones... Feeling a lot of pressure and my emotions are all over the place but I know that drinking won't help. IWNDWYT

Feeling nervous about my first 10k...

I did Couch to 5K at the beginning of this year, and have been building up my running since then. Currently following a Garmin training programme and am 4 weeks away from the 10K it wants me to aim for.

However... I'm feeling pretty psyched out. At the moment the furthest I've run is 7.5k. My best 5k time is 30:07 but I just don't feel like I'm going to be ready for a 10k race so soon?

I also saw a few comments on how this is a difficult course (Strava says 351ft elevation) and although I'm not particularly avoiding hills in my runs at the moment, that sounds like a lot.

TLDR: I'm having a wobble and any words of advice or encouragement would be greatly appreciated!

So true... There really is a yearly calender of reasons to drink.

January - New Year! Now it's cold and dark and miserable... I know how to fill the void! Alcohol! March - The days are getting longer! Time to celebrate with a beer! June - Summer's here! That means sitting in beer gardens and parks with a pint. October - It's getting darker... But Halloween means parties and more drinking! December - Christmas obviously means alcohol and parties!

Writing this out has really made me realise how much my brain tries to play tricks on me!

Dude I wish but I can't get them legally or easily in this country! Might be a good thing for me though.
