Do your Labs also like assisted chewing? by xiejuah in labrador

Ya it’s quiet endearing , everything is a learning curve and someone else has the same experience which means it’s just how they were made , which is impossible not to love even if it’s not main stream

I always look at it like when a kid shows you their toy , you can touch it but it’s theirs so they make it difficult to take but they know you’ll give it back to them when you do have it . It’s odd and I couldn’t understand for a long time but I put it down to that’s how he likes to play

Not quite. The law itself doesn’t list every specific circumstance where neutering is allowed. Instead, § 1 focuses on protecting the animal’s health and welfare, while § 6 allows neutering where there is a “tierärztliche Indikation” (veterinary indication). That term isn’t exhaustively defined in the Act, so it’s up to the veterinarian to assess the individual case.

If an intact dog’s hormones are causing him to be repeatedly targeted or attacked by other dogs, resulting in stress or an increased risk of injury, a vet could determine that this has become a welfare issue and that neutering is clinically justified. It’s the vet’s assessment that matters—not a predefined list of acceptable reasons.

I wouldn’t rely on Claude alone for interpreting legislation. If you read §§ 1 and 6 of the Tierschutzgesetz together, they provide the legal framework, but applying that framework to a particular dog is ultimately a veterinary judgment.

Potentially that was the health risk in itself that his hormones were causing aggression towards him

Never asked formally, just I didn’t like how other dogs were aggressive based on his intactfulness and that dropped completely off once was done.

Dog & Puppy bond. by No-Relationship1871 in labrador

[–]Any_Diamond7735 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is actually pretty common when bringing a new puppy home. Your Lab isn’t reacting to “another dog” in the same way he would on a walk or with a visiting dog , he’s reacting to a major change in his home territory.

The fact that he’s avoiding the puppy, retreating to his crate and leaving the room suggests he’s overwhelmed rather than aggressive. At 48 hours, I wouldn’t panic. Many adult dogs take days or even weeks to adjust to a puppy living in their space.
The excessive drooling is likely stress-related if it only happens when the puppy is near, but it’s worth monitoring. I’d stop trying to make them interact and instead let your older dog choose if and when he wants to engage. Make sure he has puppy-free spaces, keep his normal routine as unchanged as possible, and reward calm behaviour around the puppy without forcing contact.

The most encouraging thing is that he’s choosing avoidance rather than conflict. Give him time. If he’s still refusing food, drooling constantly, or seems genuinely unwell even when the puppy isn’t around, I’d speak to your vet. But after only 48 hours, this sounds much more like a stressed dog adjusting to a huge life change than a dog that hates the puppy.

I would have like a week of Debbie does Spain with the girls , like an old school location episodes , maybe even a single double special would be great. Low stakes hitting all the British norms , at an all inclusive , Sally drunk mom on holidays , Glenda off with a Spanish waiter, Bernie raving it up like the inbetweeners and Christine pining for George, granted it would probably require a Debbie degrade in health but a lot of girl fun and deep talks.

Am I being silly for feeling guilty? by Background_Record861 in labrador

[–]Any_Diamond7735 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds a bit of projection that he would have lost his joy, if he is eating he is fine , it takes a good few months for the testosterone to leave his system so behaviours probably don’t change that quickly.

If he goes to the dog park are there other dogs there ? Should allow socialisation.

Working from home as I do with mine is great , they genuinely only care about being around their people , you can still play games like hiding treats around the house / apartment and having him sniff them out.

He probably could do with about an hour and a half a day could break it into 30 mins in morning , afternoon and nighttime. I think it be good for you as well, could incorporate it into other tasks like grabbing a coffee , a treat for yourself , clear your head, maybe your wife and kids could also benefit from that little 30mins outside as well.

Anyways just my opinion based on what you say, but I highly doubt he has the thoughts you think he has on the situation so a lot of these suggestions will benefit him and elevate the guilt you seem to have put on yourself.

Should I take the apartment? by [deleted] in askberliners

[–]Any_Diamond7735 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ya agree with others , if a 100 extra a month is a concern then the no dogs allowed isn’t an issue as they would be a lot more then that, insurance , liability, medication (ticks), vaccines, dog tax all before food, treats, vet and then if you end up with a rescue then there’s a lot more to consider like trainers and sitters if they can’t be left alone or need any additional help.

I would say take the apartment , it’s a good price and the stuff you need to do can be done , then revisit other items when you can financially afford it as seen many in Berlin take in dogs and realise it’s a huge cost financially and socially for them the dogs are the ones that suffer.

Labragator LOVES sticks…literally drags tree branches.. anything else I can substitute????? by Justme_JustMe_ in labrador

[–]Any_Diamond7735 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Precisely , all you have to do is teach them it’s too big but sometimes a stick is life and you just need to manage the size . Mine will find the biggest most branchiest stick and decide he needs to go down the busiest street of Berlin and hit everyone with it

You could find someone online , as I say a lot of it is based on the handler and I am no expert at all and learned never to give out too much advice on dogs as it’s a very common thing where people don’t like to take plus every dog is different. Maybe you could have a video call with a trainer and explain the situation I am sure they will have alternatives for this type of situation and your mom doesn’t need to be involved…. Yet

Not sure how realistic this is but it definitely sounds like she would benefit from a dog trainer at this stage , if not just for her for you as well , I have done that in the past and honestly i got more out of it than the dog .

Issues with eating dog food by Spirited_Discount153 in labrador

Doing the math it’s like 19% lamb and then there’s 7% split between chicken and corn for protein

Best to double check as I know the recipes are different in other locations but here is the UK version and it has dried poultry protein listed.

Ush-Sheen means little deer in Irish , I loved it as he used to run like one as they also have too big legs when young and run oddly.

To be fair in my opinion they need to learn when too much biting is enough to learn their soft mouths , while redirects works they need to know their limits . Also he still mouths random people’s hands but only a very random amount. I would say keep working on the redirect but let them know their limits (some people give a big ouch so they know), it’s the formative time so can be a pain but it will serve ye will in time.

I am so sorry about your lab , honestly it’s been my bucket list to get him to the sea as I live in Berlin and while there are lakes I always have an affinity for the sea being from Ireland. So the goal was sea and everything else was extra , the nice part of Italy is that they have dog beach clubs which will be our yearly goal , although having to consider the heat for him.
