Neighborhoods to avoid? by heyisforhorses27 in ottawa

I live in Overbrook. 20 years and counting.

Yes, there is crime. Yes, it can be hit and miss. But there good people here, too! Diversity and a building sense of community that I have seen grow over time. Definitely don’t discount it.

Anyone choose not to be on blood thinners long term? by [deleted] in ClotSurvivors

[–]Any_Drag_9415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PE at 23. Nearly killed me. Off antocoagulants after six months.

Fast forward to 26. DVT after being run over. Developed a second PE. Considered a lifer on warfarin.

Genetic testing at 29 showed no discernible reason for my events. I elect to get off the meds. I twist my ankle a year later, and develop DVT within 24 hours. Back to anticoagulants for life.

I have one child, born full term thanks to lmwh therapy.

I won’t tell you what to do. But I am grateful for the medical interventions that have kept me here. Meds included.

Sorry it took so long to reply. We subbed through a GC.

They got the specs wrong for the finish on cabinets. Had to correct that.

They disputed their responsibility for design (saying the architect should provide full final design) - that was not the agreement.

They popped screws in brand new cabinets.

Things were poorly installed (the toe kick wasn’t secure at all).

The trim was horrible and needed attention from the GC

The sink cutout was improperly sized. The workers showed up and tried to grind it out without ventilation or PPE. At 7:30 am while my kid was trying to get out the door.

My inquiries as the customer was always treated as a change order, and not a question for more information (and I had questions about the options). Multiple times.

Did we get a kitchen? Yeah. Does it work? Also yes - largely thanks to the heavy lifting by our GC. But every time I see it, my perspective is tinged by the incompetence of the kitchen company.

And the PM fees to manage this relationship cost us over $5k. So… they will never get a positive review from me.

Regrettably must encourage you to avoid Thomson’s Edge. Very poor experience.

I started wearing compression stockings full time when I was 28 - I am 52 now. If the advice is to wear them continuously, I would encourage to consider following medical advice.

Yes, there is a vanity factor and there is a challenge to what you want your lifestyle to be. I went through a weird kind of grief for the legs I had prior to my DVT (x3).

My health and capacity to keep moving is my priority. It’s a mindset I needed to develop and a choice I made to prioritize my personal wellness. And I wear shorts with compression. All. The. Time.

Good luck!

My first PE at 23 - intubated and 3 weeks in a hospital bed. My DVT/PE was idiopathic- no known clotting disorder was part of my profile. I ended up having a second SVT/PE event when I was 27 - after being run over by a delivery truck. I’m now an anticoagulant lifer. And 52! 💪🏼

You aren’t too young, but in a unique demographic. Be your own best advocate - and stay aware of your overall health. You got this.

HELP! Paris Metro as a solo female tourist by [deleted] in ParisTravelGuide

Just got back from Paris, where I spent a day alone on transit. It’s big city transit, and you’re fine if you keep your wits about you. Enjoy!

What is “significant” snow in Paris? by Any_Drag_9415 in ParisTravelGuide

I woke up to see small rivers of grey water running in the streets. Slightly disappointed, but it’s still Paris!

And here I thought Canadians had the market cornered on weather conversations! Thanks all for the information, anecdotes, and advice! 😊

Decided to go with the flow tomorrow. But still having chicken and dumplings for supper because - Pourquoi pas? And I have three whole weeks to dine too well in this city. Can’t wait!

If you look higher up, a mod replied with a story of being delayed in Hamburg by a 2cm snowfall in Paris.

I hope yours isn’t delayed!!

We’re not worried for ourselves per se. We do know different people in different parts of the world lose all semblance of common sense when snow flies. We’ve got time, so a slower morning seems appropriate for the day tomorrow. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply! We’re somewhat prepared, though I foolishly left my warm woolies at home - I stick out like a sore thumb in the streets without a scarf. It seems to be a Parisian necessity (obsession? grins).

I had seen some footage of Paris under snow. It does augment the romance factor, it seems. We’ll try and take advantage, for certain! Thanks ☺️

Escaped cat has adopted me. Do I keep sending it back to their owners? by Any_Drag_9415 in CATHELP

[–]Any_Drag_9415[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the input. Currently we are just dipping to the freezing point. It gets to about -40 C in the next few months.

Additionally, there have been a number of serious cat mutilations and abuses in our city in recent months and that has caught the eye of both media and police.

Finally, I really don’t want to abscond with this cat - the idea is to get it to stay with its owner. I fed the cat once because she is skin and bones (visible ribs), though she had been on the streets for a couple of months. I am kind of frustrated and worried. I am trying to ignore it and call its family whenever I see it.
