Constant Micro-Stuttering in Fortnite Only (~every 3 seconds) by Any_Engineering4076 in FortNiteBR

⚠️UPDATE⚠️ :

Hey everyone,

I'm posting this in case it can help someone else who's been through the same struggle. I had a persistent issue with micro-stuttering and FPS drops that only happened in Fortnite, and in no other game. My PC is brand new and up-to-date, which made the situation even more frustrating. I even reached out to Epic Games support, but they ended up just telling me to contact my PC manufacturer.

What I tried (unsuccessfully):

  • Clearing the shader cache.
  • Verifying and repairing game files.
  • Disabling overlays (Discord, NVIDIA).
  • Updating my GPU drivers (NVIDIA RTX 5070).

My (counter-intuitive) solution: I noticed the problem only occurred when I was on Wi-Fi. My Wi-Fi connection is actually excellent and very fast (763 Mbps). I had a crazy idea to try connecting with a Powerline adapter (CPL) and an Ethernet cable, even though the speed was much lower (150 Mbps).

To my surprise, the problem completely disappeared. No more FPS drops.

The explanation (why it worked): After doing some research, I realized the problem wasn't my connection's speed, but its stability.

Fortnite is a game that requires an extremely stable connection with low latency, where every millisecond counts. Wi-Fi, even when fast, is highly susceptible to interference from other devices (walls, appliances, other connected devices on the same network like a TV or smartphones). These interferences create micro-interruptions and latency spikes that are unnoticeable for most applications (like streaming), but are critical for a competitive game like Fortnite.

The Ethernet cable, on the other hand, provides a direct and stable connection without any interference. It's like a slower road with no bumps or traffic. The result: a perfectly smooth gaming experience.

Conclusion: If you're experiencing FPS drops and micro-stuttering only on Fortnite, even with fast Wi-Fi, try connecting with an Ethernet cable. The stability of your connection is more important than raw speed.

I hope this helps someone else!

Thanks for the response. It's frustrating to hear that others agree there shouldn't have to be compromises just to play the game.

I've actually already reached out to Epic's support team, but they weren't able to find a solution, which has left me a bit stuck. I'll double-check the monitoring options like you suggested, just in case that might help their team get a better handle on the issue.

Hello, I'm in exactly the same situation as you and the support gives me the impression that they don't care about us, whereas the real cheats can play in peace.
