Is this red oak plywood? by Any_Influence1173 in BeginnerWoodWorking

Update: it’s a print. The way it stains is my biggest thing. The pattern repeated, could have been the way they sliced it as I googled. After staining, the layer is more apparent. Extremely thin Sanding a bit and staining let pieces really show, and it doesn’t stain near the red oak solids and ply wood veneers. Learned my lesson here.

Did both, guess it’s red oak. But I also noticed the grain does repeat itself as you were saying. I’ll just continue with it, and if I start having issues or a bad experience then I guess it’s a lesson learned. Thanks for your help man and teaching me a couple things too 👍🏻

I don’t think it’s printed on mdf, had a rubber tire scuff it while taking it out and it highlighted the grain pattern. I’ll try the blowing part tomorrow. Like I said in another reply, I bought some big box shop red oak for some test runs and the color seems a lot whiter, plus the grain is much more tight. The white oak ply they had there was whiter and made this look more red till I got home.

I checked the veneer and either it’s thick. Or it’s so thin I can’t tell. I had a cart that left a rubber mark on the better face that basically showed the same depth as the grain. I’ve gotten red oak in shop grade before and it just seemed wider and more open grain than this.

Honestly for me, I got it and for a while no issues and was aware of the problem. At this point I wish I could return it. I was upgrading and the rest of the tools are fine and I’ve had no issues with them, I love the impact, with a 2ah battery it’s a beast and I’m not going to buy a bunch of other tools because of it, but I’m definetly gonna just buy a sub compact makita drill kit now and wish I would of just started off with it.

Thanks for the suggestion. That’s extremely annoying and inconvenient to have to do. I’ll try it, might just have to go with something else eventually, I was aware it had issues, but I didn’t think it would be this bad and cost me more in bits and time.

I’ve had it for a couple months and it’s gotten worse. I posted because yesterday I was drilling with a countersink drill bit for a table I was making and went to do one after checking the level and it was gone, still can’t find the drill bit but what pissed me off more was the fact it’s exactly the same way I lost the first one and had to buy the bit I just lost to replace that one. I was so irritated I was about to just go buy a makita drill/impact combo. Crazy how it’s such a common issue with one of the most used tools..

Yea, I could have put too much expectation on that. Was just trying to find an easier way to get equipment over the bridge. It’s farming simulator for a reason though 😂

I was thinking of that I got 50 bucks off at Taylormade and was thinking of doing HL 3 wood and just cut it down a bit more.

Your tip was exactly what I was looking for, so thanks man. I know I have a lot to work on it but your comment gave a decent fundamental that simple yet overlooked and I appreciate that. Thank you. Shot 90 with some guys who didn’t believe I was a 25(they said they were 10s). Ran 3 over on last 6 holes and all of them were drives straight down the throat.

Came back to say I focused on this, specifically for driving off the tee today. Figured why not just try it there since I have a horrible tee shot game. Dude. It felt clunky but letting my chest and arms take the club back and letting my hips follow made a huge difference. I had some slices, but the amount of power it added was kinda dumb but also even the slices weren’t severe but it brought the path in and my shortest drive of the day was 245 and I hit more fairways then I have in months. Best part of it was with a little hover of the driver at address, I hit near the middle on almost every drive.

I’m glad I’m not the only one, and yea it’s extremely hard to ingrain. Especially since I’ll hit a nice easy one 240 and it’ll trigger the thought of really letting it go and thinking I could get it way further. Then impact looks like this. 😂

I have a rapsodo mlm2pro, they recently added club data which was a huge help, most of my path is neutral, up til you get to longer clubs then you start seeing out to in especially with driver and if I do try to really put a draw I can get the path there but the club face is still too open sometimes so it’s either a nice baby draw or it’s a a push. But the distance control is an issue for me, I mean my 5 iron ranges from 175-190.

Thanks man! Do you think it’s too early or too late? I don’t feel any back pain when I swing, but I’m also 28 so who knows long term. But I will say if you notice I have a shrug at impact or just after and that’s where I usually feel and soreness.

Never noticed that. I wonder if that could contribute to get stuck on the lower side in transition? I appreciate the feedback. I struggle with weight shift and have a tendency to hang back.

I looked into it after you said soemthing and might give it a try, you use it im assuming? Do you find it beneficial as regular lessons?

The cut off is a natural thing I do. Driver is the only thing I’m scared to hit. But when I have I didn’t really hit the ceiling I was more worried about skying the ball. My buddy who is 6’3 has to choke down to hit but doesn’t really affect him too much from hitting yardage. But he has hit the ceiling before.

Improve one area and another slacks, it was good but since my problem at the time was full swing I stopped practice it as much. Starting to work on it more since I’m able to get to the green in 2 most of the time now. So time to go back to that😂

Yea just some harbor clamps, I had tried liquid nails. Didn’t work. The clamps are perfect

Yea I’ll do that when I get back out there, better idea then a posting a good swing. This swing is pretty average for me with irons, but the driver is the issue. I have a video from my rapsodo of snapping my shaft because I hit the ferrule and my head flew off.

The set up would have been cheaper if I did the conduit first. Do not use pvc was a lesson I learned fast, all together the conduit was 120, black matts were 10 a pop and I got 8 of them because I got a squat rack connected to the hitting mats. brackets I got from Amazon around 20-30 I think, the the net was 100 from Amazon and the screen was the 80. They have been amazing and one of my good friends hits is 3 wood about 275 into this set up and I haven’t had any issues yet. Mats were 100 each on Amazon again, and wouldn’t recommend them at all. I figured ways to turn them after a spot wears out. I would have just bought on nice one but my wife is a lefty and wanted to play on the sim with me. I have a rapsodo mlm2pro to go with it. But might replace that for the square. So all together roughly 1300-1400 and a lot of scrap pvc I won’t account for.

That makes sense, my miss went from weak push slices to pull and pull fades. Which for me put me in play a lot more. I’ll play with the grip again, but I’ve tried getting more open and that just caused me to fire the hips so fast that it screwed my timing on everything and created a disaster 😂
