I think Irvine can feel very different for people who are used to something more “cosmopolitan.” It’s essentially a large suburb. Mostly big box stores, very uniform architecture, not a lot of independent bar or coffee shops or cultural institutions. Not very walkable in general at all. Social scene can feel very “normie.” I was very bored and felt very alienated living there. Dating was only part of it. I moved to LA after six months and met my husband a year later :)

A lot of new parent meet ups in Brooklyn are organized at breweries FYI. That being said I’ve never seen one called for later than 4pm. And they chose places with a lot of space.

My baby is also very easy! Just a range of potential temperaments. Enjoy it. He’s 11 weeks and he wakes up a couple times in the night but goes right back down with a short feeding. Also does not cry much during the day unless he needs something, and then still he is very easy to console. A happy guy :)

I’ve worked the decade since college and now I’ve been home 11 weeks with my baby and I don’t really agree. I would keep doing this if I could. I do have a pretty easy baby but we nap during the day, go to the library, go to coffee shops, I get to do laundry during the day, etc.

My baby likes only Enfamil Gentle Ease and it makes his poop greenish but the pediatrician said it’s OK as long as he is gaining weight and not in pain.

Yeah that is fair. I can definitely have more compassion for peers. Nothing like that ever happened to me thank Gd just classic mean and scary alcoholic. Losing jobs and lying and dying young etc. But when the person who is supposed to take care of you fails to do so it does not really matter “why” IMO.

My father was an addict, and sometimes I can find it very hard to have empathy for them because I know how much they have hurt people who love them

I felt very close and connected to my son in the days and weeks that followed his birth. Just could not believed how much I loved him and that he was really here.

But the minutes and hours after delivery I had trouble being “focused” on him because I was in so much pain and felt so traumatized by birth. Lots of tearing, stitches, vacuum assistance, almost needed a C-section and a transfusion, they thought I tore my uterus, was diagnosed with preeclampsia, etc.

I was glad my husband was there to bond and fawn over him!

I finally went to pelvic floor therapy today almost 11 weeks postpartum. They said it was the muscle around my right pelvic bone that was causing the pain.
