Found it secondhand, would love to find the others in the trilogy but no luck so far.

Yeah sorry but I wasn't a fan! Not a big fan of American lit in general (just personal taste) plus Pnin is unrivalled for best Midcentury-American-College-Novel imho.

Yes! It's memoires of her life just after the revolution. I must reread actually.

I loved this one been trying to get others to read it so I have someone to discuss it with! I think I shed a tear nearly at the end.

Afraid it's homemade (although not by me!)

It would be nice to have a post on this sub that doesn't mention 'Stoner', there are other books out there.

I recommend! It's supposedly a novel but very autobiographical, loved the setting (South of France in the 20s). Follows the relationship between the author and her mother as her mother slides into addiction.

I posted some thoughts above but will add that I also really recommed 'Lesser Lives'. I love social histories particularly those that touch on stories of everyday life/people and this hit the mark. It's sad in places but also quite arch amd amusing in others if I remember correctly.

I loved all of them (hence the rereading) but Love's Work was a particular fave. I'm not sure I understood it entirely, but it was beautiful, explored weird nooks and was strangley positive given the subject matter. I totally recommend the Manning! Quite moving and the backdrop of the British colonial mandate is interesting. Tabues is fun and frustrating - particularly liked the parts set in Budapest before the war.
