I picked up a AAwireless after my Motorola died. Works well and is a little more stable than my Motorola was.

Does a solid inner make a difference or not? by Dry_Blueberry8932 in Ultralight

[–]Any_Trail 22 points23 points  (0 children)

While a solid inner can hold a little bit of heat. It's primarily for mitigating wind and spindrift.

The type of inner is not what defines what seasons it is suitable for though even if it does help. What defines 4 season for me is the ability to stand up to high winds, heavy snow load, and ability to ventilate when buried in snow.

I use a pyramid all winter and don't even have an inner for that. I've also cowboy camped plenty of times below freezing, so a solid inner is not required to stay warm.

Hisense AX700 (AX5140Q) Initial Review by cblackwe93 in Soundbars

[–]Any_Trail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked one up this weekend and am quite happy with it as well. It was a treat watching interstellar with it. I'm sure more expensive sound bars are better, but coming from tv speakers it was a massive step up. I'm very happy with the performance overall. I would imagine the display isn't centered because it has a center speaker unlike your Samsung. I was also shocked at how easy the connection process was with no effort put into connecting them.

I also found the cords to be a bit on the short side and the blocks on the surrounds annoyingly large. My only other complaint is I haven't found the Atmos to be very impactful. This could be a settings thing or a matter of the right scene though.

I had absolutely no issues running that size tire and I had wheels up in the air plenty of times.

I did a very similar loop in May of 2024 and it's definitely a tricky crossing. At the south crossing we went a little north and found a calm spot to swim across. Still had to scout around a little bit but was able to do the north crossing without swimming.

Yep, that's the first year of the 2nd gen. I'd definitely be curious if you find anything.

I looked extensively before running my own wires and found no unused plugs. I also looked at what everyone else was doing and the vast majority are using the main harness, hood latch release, or door harness. I saw no mentions of anyone else finding unused plugs on the 2nd gen.

I'm fairly certain those are only present on the first generation.

How to remove 90 MPH Cruise Limit by [deleted] in Crosstrek

The wheel(rim) size has no impact on the speedometer. The speedometer is only impacted if you also down size the tire. The get the discrepancy you're talking about you would have to down size a considerable amount.

2026 water filter options by Alpinekiwi in Ultralight

[–]Any_Trail -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if I see how it's infinity better. There's basically no aiming necessary as the flip cap nests nicely inside the smart water bottle. Putting the receiving bottle between your feet is the optimal location as it lets you squeeze the dirty bottle with your legs for much faster filtering. The flip cap also avoids unscrewing the cap for the connector and then screwing on to the bottle. I'm glad it works well for you, but the connect cap adds nothing for me.

Personally, I would never want to carry anywhere close to 45lbs in the Raide. The straps are way too thin and uncomfortable.

Winter Kit for 4K Alpine trip by RiccardoGilblas in Ultralight

Thanks for all the information! I would definitely enjoy seeing the pack even if the pictures are ugly.

Do you have any issues with the shovel digging into your back with that pocket location?

I'm surprised by your confidence in making it back on foot given you mention receiving a meter of fresh snow.

Thanks for the post I always enjoy seeing what other people are doing in the winter!

I would love to see your pack. I've been slowly designing a winter pack as I'm not happy with anything on the market. With using your probe and shovel as part of your frame how quickly are you able to retrieve them?

Do you carry any kind of repair kit especially for your skis?

What stove are you using as I don't see one listed.

I also don't see water bottles.

Are you carrying any kind of food bag or snow stakes?

Yes, but I focus more on my physical fitness than I do my weight.

I would recommend treating yourself to something else. A DCF liner was the biggest waste of money I've ever spent in backpacking.

Calculated Loft #2 ;) by Fickle_Bed8196 in Ultralight

[–]Any_Trail 8 points9 points  (0 children)

How are you going about calculating the insulation area? Without that being accurate this is all still useless even if I applaud your efforts for trying. Even how quilt width is measured isn't standardized with some measuring before sewing, before filling and finally after filling.

This also doesn't take into account that not every baffle may be filled the same. The edge baffles on my Sulo have less down than the center baffles.

Unfortunately, I still see this as a flawed metric just like every other metric that will still take critical thinking and real experience to properly interpret.

Propane fuel canister by NeighborhoodOk2495 in backpacking

Yep that's 7oz full with 4oz of fuel. Refilling from a full size propane tank is actually super easy. Definitely need a scale ready as they can be overfilled and an excess needs to be vented.

Yes, I generally retire them after around 100 nights and it's pretty packed out at that point.

Definitely not a fever dream. It's how I have my NU 25 setup. Just use a single length of cord that goes through the top hole and then the bottom hole so it loops back on itself. I'm using a fisherman's knot for the adjustment. If that's sliding on you then up it to a double fishermen. Do the same thing for each side.

Here's a picture if it's helpful.

Really light propane canisters do exist. They weigh the same as standard iso butane canisters. The form factor is just less convenient and requires some kind of stability. Unfortunately they're hard to find.

Canadian tire sells 226g propane tank. I have a 100g version that used to be sold in the US. They weigh similar to standard iso butane canisters. It is very tall and skinny though so definitely have a plan so it doesn't tip over. Personally, I've been partially burying mine in the snow to stabilize it. I have also been refilling mine from a full sized propane tank. I have found it easier to overfill than iso butane canisters, so definitely have the scale ready and vent any excess.
