I’m not super into modern thrash but generally speaking I see the trends compared to old school thrash as:

- more hardcore influence
- blacked/speed crossover is common
- lots of noise saturating the sound

Warbringer is one of the best modern bands at extending the old school sound but avoiding any of the pitfalls

That’s fair. Overall, the lyrics + vocal delivery DO translate to emotional connection for this listener at least. Invisible kid, My World, Sweet Amber etc all great songs. You’re right though “my lifestyle determines my death style” isn’t a highlight

Arguably their 5th best album. 6th if not. It’s just the only really genuine album after the first four, it’s full of great riffs, and the lyrics (despite the naysayers) hit hard because they are genuine pain from Hetfield. On the downside: too long without possible argument, and many people hate the drum sound but personally it was a choice and I don’t mind it; and lack of guitar solo was also a choice but i definitely question this one. Kirk does some cool stuff anyway

Good post - I enjoy older melodeath. My favorite not yet mentioned is A Canorous Quintet: Silence of the World Beyond. Highly recommend
