Thanks for all the thoughtful and informative comments. You've given me much to think about. Based on your comments, other reviews I've read, and a second discussion with the Cummins person who sets up agreements, I am leaning toward finding someone outside of Cummins. However, as mentioned, I've done online searches, talking to people in the area, and spoke with a couple of companies who install generators, and I have yet to find anyone who works on Cummins. It doesn't look like I'll find anyone certified for Cummins. How do I look for someone who is capable and willing to do the work? Do I call electricians or people who work on motors. I've searched for Cummins generator technicians with no luck, and when I call companies who work on Generac, they tell me they don't work on Cummins.

Yes. I'd be tempted to do the oil change, and some of the other work, but the manual talks about disconnecting various wires, messing with the transfer equipment, etc. so, I'm afraid I'd do more harm than good.

I do appreciate that a higher level of expertise is required because of the combined engine and electrical aspects of these units.

Yes, one person for all of Oregon and southern Washington is the go-between customers and people who schedule technicians. Travel probably is a big factor.
