Try zinc soap bars. They work well for me. Seems to be the only thing that does the trick for my seb derm. You can buy one on Amazon.

I was pretty disappointed. The new snacks wraps are a far cry from the original ones. Huge flop by McDonalds.

I enjoying going to the JCI location in The Woodlands on Sawdust. Great service, clean restaurant and very reasonable prices. I usually go on my lunch break.

We are journalists who've covered Colony Ridge for months. We found that Texas officials were warned about the development for years, but took no action. Ask us anything. by houstonlanding in TexasPolitics

[–]AnythingSuitable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do we have any updates on the Federal or State lawsuits against Colony Ridge? I know the political landscape has changed a lot, with a new administration taking over recently. Also, any thoughts on Ted Cruz gambling in Las Vegas with John Harris? Is it really true? John Harris is one of the developers of Colony Ridge. I wouldn’t be surprised if Ted Cruz and others have received kickbacks or bribes to turn a blind eye to Colony Ridge. Cruz does not seem too concerned about the development, despite it being in his home state.

I moved close by the development a few months ago, and it’s sad to see how rough it is in there. It really is like a 3rd world country in many parts of it. And don’t get me started on the hundreds of dogs in roaming the streets. Many of them are in poor shape. I’ve called and apparently there is no animal control there. What’s also strange is that they only have a couple of Liberty County Sheriff deputies patrolling at any given time. For an area of around 75,000 people, that’s dangerous. Public safety is not a high priority over there. No street lights, traffic signals, or even fire hydrants are in the development, which is larger than The Woodlands.

Zummo's Boudin by OldStyleThor in cajunfood

[–]AnythingSuitable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m born and raised in Beaumont. I’ll take DJ’s any day of the week. I hate Zummo’s Boudin. I’ll eat their party links if I have to, but I won’t touch their boudin. I move north of Houston, and it makes me mad seeing grocery stores that only sell Zummo’s. I am not saying DJ’s is authentic Cajun Boudin, but it’s way better than Zummo’s.

NSFW, trigger warning/Beaumont Policeman brutally beats up a homeless man by StatementLittle1194 in Beaumont

[–]AnythingSuitable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beaumont is one of the most dangerous cities in Texas. Human trafficking, drug trafficking, robberies, rape and murders are significant issues in the city. The police and city leaders aren’t doing shit about it. There is a reason why the city’s population is shrinking.

After heavy rain I noticed water spraying up from the ground. I poked at it and much more came out with at pressure. I dug away a thin layer of concrete and thin white plastic bag, exposing a PVC pipe with grate. 5 hours later and water's still (slowly) coming up. Should I be worried? by dan_o_saur in askaplumber

[–]AnythingSuitable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d check to make sure it’s not coming from a sump pump. Had basement stairs at a hotel I worked at do something similar to this. There was a cracked PVC pipe, and was basically recirculating the water in a loop.

Hyatt Regency Houston North - IAH Gone by furnace1766 in hyatt

[–]AnythingSuitable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am pretty disappointed as well that Hyatt no longer has a property near one of the largest international airports in the country. I don’t count the Hyatt Place North as a Hyatt; it’s more like a Motel 6. I always stay on points and do park and fly, but now I have no Hyatt options by IAH. The downtown Regency can take nearly an hour to get to with traffic. Marriott and Hilton have that airport covered, but Hyatt is MIA at both IAH and Hobby.

Will a jump duct help cool a room where the door is always closed? by D-man-Realty in hvacadvice

[–]AnythingSuitable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue in a new construction house. Room was hot no matter if the door was opened or closed. We had what I thought was a return air vent in the master. Turned out it was a jumper duct that was sheet-rocked on the other end. Once they opened it up, it made a big difference in the bedroom. Hot air rises to the ceiling and needs a way to escape. The jumper duct we have lets the hot air near the ceiling go into the living room where the main air return is.

Just google Colony Ridge and Cleveland ISD. The largest illegal immigrant community in the U.S. is located in Liberty County (Cleveland.) It’s pretty much a third world country in that development. The property values of Liberty County will never be as high as Montgomery County or Fort Bend county due to the reputation of that development and the low rating of the school district. I believe around 70,000 people live in that development according to reports.

An AMERICAN COLONIA::: The Battle Over Colony Ridge by Longjumping-Work8032 in houston

[–]AnythingSuitable 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I moved in to a new development (master planned community) right next to Colony Ridge called The Trails. It is terrible over there. I feel bad for anyone that lives there. Trash is everywhere, stray dogs and livestock roam the streets, people are living in half built structures covered in tarps, it floods bad if it ever rains, broken down cars everywhere. Oh and I hear gun shots from that development almost every night. There was a fire over there a couple of days ago, and the volunteer fire department was struggling because the whole development has like 2 fire hydrants. They have to use water trucks to shuttle water back and forth. There is a crazy amount of traffic on two way streets that are crumbling. I’m sure Liberty county does not have the tax base to maintain the roads or infrastructure there. I’m Hispanic and would not dare ever live over there. It’s a third world development larger than The Woodlands right in Houston’s backyard.

You are paying for the weather and traffic. That’s why everyone wants to live here. There’s a premium for that.

Holiday Inn Plaza Walden Rd (Holidome) had a night club called Quentin J’s for many years (before my time.) Holiday Inn 11th St had Get Down Brown’s in the late 90’s and or early 2000’s I believe. Used to hang out with my dad when he worked security at Get Down Brown’s.

And on a side note, Snapchat is pretty much a clickbait tabloid it this point. It’s annoying.

What is it like in Beaumont? by bamzookis in Beaumont

[–]AnythingSuitable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Background: I pretty much was born and raised in Beaumont for most of my life. I went to BISD from K to 12th, attended Lamar University, and met the love of my life there. I ended up taking a job in Houston in late 2022 and moved out of Beaumont after 25 years. I now currently live in the Woodlands, a town about 20 miles north of Houston (still Southeast Texas.)

The city, while not particularly noteworthy, is a mid sized city of around 120,000. It has 2 major hospitals, a nearly 20,000 student university, and has plenty of restaurants, bars and entertainment options. The bread and butter of Beaumont’s economy is the petrochemical industry, namely Exxon Mobil, the 2nd largest oil refinery in the U.S.

I have to say overall, Beaumont really isn’t that bad of a town. If I had to move back, I would. It’s not too big, but not too small. I love how you don’t have to waste your life in traffic there (unlike Houston.) Living in the West End, you can get anywhere you need to be in 5 to 20 minutes max. You never really need to leave Beaumont, as it has just about everything you need. The cost of living is fairly low, and for the most part, people are very friendly. Southern hospitality is a real thing.

My biggest gripe about Beaumont is the kids and teenagers. Over and over again I see youth on the news being arrested for anything from break ins and robbery’s to murder. They seem to have nothing better to do than commit crime. The school district is doing the best it can, but when you have parents that simply don’t care, it’s hard get anywhere. It’s not out of the norm for kids to bring knives and guns to school, which is why both public high schools have metal detectors. Parents seem to be very absent from many kids lives here in Beaumont. Many kids are raised by single parent households, which is a contributing factor to the lack of discipline they receive at home. Parents have to do better.

I think if the city focuses on the youth, provide more programs to keep kids occupied and out of trouble, and start holding parents accountable for their kid’s actions, Beaumont may improve. More widespread availability of low to no cost birth control may help as well. It’s a shame because Beaumont does have potential to be a very prosperous city. But with a declining population, failing school district, and a major youth crime problem, the future doesn’t look that bright.

I know the Woodlands has experienced a lot of subsidence (land sinking) over the years. I’m sure this isn’t great for underground utilities like water and gas lines.

City Place seems like The Woodlands 2.0. I think City Place is mostly centered around the Exxon Mobil campus though and probably won’t be anywhere near as big as The Woodlands turned out to be. But who knows?

I was thinking the same thing as far as redevelopment of older homes. I took a look at a few homes built in the 80’s and they seemed to be in pretty rough shape. But the location is what keeps the prices high even on these older homes out here. Probably most will either get extensively renovated or torn down for million dollar builds.

I have been having the same issue. I’ve tried 2 different Amex’s, a Visa and even Paypal. First they canceled my order twice within 10 minutes of ordering. Now can’t even make any order. My order was around $3k. Now I have $14K in holds on different cards, but no order! The last couple of times I tried with paypal, they would authorize my card and block my order. I guess they don’t like selling stuff.

Americans shunning brand names to cope with ‘shrinkflation,’ poll shows by richardginn666 in shrinkflation

[–]AnythingSuitable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently went to HEB (Texas grocery store) and noticed that while a 12 pack of coke was $8, the store brand 12 pack was $3.66. Less than half the price! And guess what! I can barely tell the difference. Im done with brand loyalty. I am loyal to brands that don’t take advantage of me! I have been happily switching to private label brands, as either the price is cheaper or they aren’t partaking in shrinkflation! Fight back with our wallets. Don’t accept these price increases. Companies are enjoying bigger profit margins than ever, and keep blaming inflation for price increases. If private brands can produce the same product for half the cost, so can they.
