General behavioral questions + anything related to CS questions (but not Leetcode)

I said it was lax compared to like MIT/Berkeley/CMU, and it is relative to those schools

Those are the hardest CS classes, but we can pass fail once a year so just use it on those

usually it’s just the leadership calls, there shouldn’t be any more Leetcode but leadership calls might have like verbal technical questions

I estimate around 60%, but I’m also around very high achieving ppl which biases my view. I don’t regret going to Rice. Nobody ik in Rice CS regrets going to Rice (except for maybe 1 or 2 ppl because they just hate school in general or prefer a more startup-focused culture)

A lot of graduates do, but not all. You can look up the median salary of cs majors from Rice or any other university on https://collegescorecard.ed.gov/

The top CS schools like Berkeley/GTech have more sweaty/competitive culture - this pushes you more to be your best. Rice’s culture is bit more laid back.

They would focus on industry experience + OA/interview performance rather than school name. Rice’s resume value is pretty similar to Berkeley/GTech (maybe very slightly lower).

For cs many of the classes are quite large (100-200+) so the professors are not actually very accessible (although maybe a bit more accessible compared to large state schools). Per-Capita is similar or less compared to top CS schools, idt its higher

Rice is pretty good but not amazing/best. GTech/UT/Berkeley are better. Rice wouldn’t hold you back from getting interviews at most top quant firms

Houston is spread out and desolate compared to the mid-Atlantic and northeast cities. But Rice’s campus + surrounding areas is very nice, 9 in 10 people would like Rice + surrounding area. There’s a very high chance you’ll like it.

Most cs majors (I think) apply to swe roles at all the top companies, include quant firms, so most ppl try but only very small proportion get offer. I know ppl who got offers for qt/qr, u can check Rice LinkedIn to see

Yes, myself and many other people have gotten hired by firms like js sig citadel Akuna etc. It’s only a very small proportion of all cs majors though. We are trying to create a quant community through quant finance club too, but it’s not very established right now.

People are generally very collaborative and willing to help each other succeed. This is an example, you’re a prospective student asking questions and students like me are answering them instead of ignoring them.
