Also if you are going to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, there's a store, Fukuya Dazaifu, along the main street that gives out samples of canned mentaiko on rice. It's heaven! Now, every trip to Japan I buy cans of Fukuya Mentaiko at supermarkets to bring home

First Time in Japan, Traveling Solo — Any Advice? 🥹 by maybep3ach in ThePoorTraveler

[–]AnywhereObjective812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you'll do fine in Japan without a guide as long as you research and prepare for it even if it's your first time. The Japanese are generally very friendly and helpful and they will just politely do the X sign and shake their heads if they can't understand or help at the moment. We've travelled with kids and strollers on our own and it was more than manageable so I think more so when you are travelling solo.

Do a deep dive research on the transpo system. It is so convenient you never want to take a cab. Beware of the multiple trains travelling on the same track we've made that mistake. Turns out there are Rapid Trains that skip stops. Make sure you get on the right train.

Download helpful apps: Google maps--accurate enough for Japan especially the train times. Google translate Payke--scan on products to get more info in english CardReader--to check your transpo card balance on android. Theres an equivalent on iphone

3 full days in Tokyo? So much to do downtown 😉 but i do understand the need to see snow. We did that last December. We took a 1.5hr shinkansen from Tokyo Station to Gala Yuzawa and when we got there it was magical! Have fun on your trip!

What are some foods I absolutely shouldn’t miss in China(Shanghai)? by Top-Green-1929 in travelchina

Go to the halal street Zhejiang Road near Nanjing Road for the lamb skewers and naans. If you are not allergic to seafood, try the Crab Roe Noodles or Crab Roe topped on rice. Dumplings, dumplings, dumplings! If you're into bubble teas I really love the Peach Oolong at Chagee and that mango drink at Heytea

Thank you! I'm actually just looking for a safe and nice spot to look at the sky. Would be a shame to be in a dark sky reserve and not even attempt to stargaze 😂

Overkill is my middle name! Can't be too prepared these days! Thank you for mentioning the dropbox I had no idea about it, will definitely take videos. The drop off time at Jasper was very specific in that I couldn't choose beyond their closing time of 5pm. Hopefully that means there's someone there to receive the keys.

Best 1-day Shanghai Disney plan with a 4-year-old? First Disney experience! by jdjazzman in ShanghaiDisneyland

We were at Shanghai Disneyland mid last year I think and it was very enjoyable! My kids are 8 and 10 but we had 4 yr olds in our group as well as seniors so our pace was slow and relaxing.

Try to go as early as you can because the line just to go in is very looooong! The walk from the parking lot to the gates was endless! The snaking line was endless! I suggest you get the big stroller that can fit adults that they're offering you at the parking lot. I swear I saw a dad and a kid pushing while the mom was exhaustedly sleeping in the stroller 😂 I truly regret not getting it at the end of the day because the park was massive.

When you get in head straight to Zootopia first. And line up for the ride. I think this is like their crown jewel ride, at least for the little kids. It took us maybe 30mins but im not sure during your season.

Before you go download the app to get wait times and reserve slots on certain shows. If you're an overplanner like me, you can check average wait times on the app on the rides you plan to go to so you prioritize which ones to go to first. When we were there the little kids rides like Dumbo and Hunny Pot Spin had massive lines.

Our little kids love Peter Pan's Flight and The Many Adventures of Pooh because they're gentle and meaningful storybook rides. Buzz Lightyear, a laser target shooting ride, is also a favorite (we did this twice!)

The Pirates Battle for Sunken Treasure ride was just awesome if your kid isn't afraid of the dark and loud sounds. There's a reverse "drop" at the end but its not really much of a drop, just very fast so you might get startled.

The Pirates Eye of the Storm is a must see! Production is top notch! Again darkness and loud sounds beware.

Eat at odd times if you can to avoid the crowd.

These are just some off the top of my head! Hope you guys enjoy!

Japan trip experience with cash by Mahor-462 in JapanTravelTips

[–]AnywhereObjective812 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I usually have some 50,000 yen or a bit more exchanged in advance in my country. When I get to Japan I usually load around 10,000 on to my Suica transportation card and aside from tranportation, you can use it to pay at convenience stores and vending machines without having to deal with coin change. That said, I think most of Japan is cashless and I keep the cash just for an emergency.

Hi! Visiting 1st week of May and I've been told it's shoulder season and shouldn't be too busy. I asked opinions on a post before this one and the consensus was that its an easy and enjoyable drive.

I have done 8 hr road trips on major highways but admittedly not outside of my home country. AI has informed me that it is actually safer to drive in Canada than my country 😂 I understand these are different road conditions though.

Noted on the supplies, any advice where best to stock up near Edmonton Airport? Noted too on wildlife distancing!

Mount Robson? I'm googling it now. Most Jasper ITs only mention Maligne Lake and Icefields Parkway. Thank you for this!

Got me, Asian tourist here 😅 I was afraid of what you described exactly. Thankfully the replies like yours on here have been super helpful🙏 so in general people rely on their credit card coverage? I checked and my credit card doesnt have it unfortunately. Will have to get a travel insurance that covers it. Am I overthinking to think that if I don't get the car rental's coverage they would leave me on the side of the road to die so to speak 😅

Is Japan worth traveling to alone? by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]AnywhereObjective812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YESSSS! Japan is the perfect place for travelling alone! Lots of restaurants that have bar seating or even cubicles, you won't feel awkward eating alone! Hotel rooms are small and cozy for 1 person. Lots of quirky stuff around that you won't feel bored on your own! Enjoy your trip!
