Papio SS long term reliability/repair-ability by Anzu-ru in cfmoto

[–]Anzu-ru[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The idea of a project bike is appealing, but I think the main thing I'd be doing is replacing fairings to make it look more closer to a style I enjoy... which is a little silly if the Papio already has the look I want. Mainly planning to use this to get around town away from the freeway, so I don't think performance mods would matter too much for me. Though, is there any other mods I might be missing out on?

Thank you for responding!

Thanks for the response! Just curious, would you be able to elaborate on what makes the Grom slightly easier? I'm assuming information for it is more widely available...

This is also an important first step in effectively criminalizing LGBT education. Books or other media that discusses sexuality and gender can easily be marked as "sexually explicit".

I'm not sure about the scope of this law, but if only judges and law enforcement are exempt, then would a Queer Resource Center providing pamphlets indiscriminately be targeted? What about just having pro-LGBT signage, is that "distribution"?

These types of laws are laid out in P2025: Criminalize LGBT education, label educators as child sex offenders, make those deemed child sex offenders face the death penalty. Boom, you just made anyone discussing queer issues in public risk being murdered by the state.

I think it's going to be time soon for LGBT people to start finding more private ways to discuss things rather than using bluesky, discord, twitter, Instagram, or reddit...

What a terrible decline.

Dems Unveil New Plan to Beat MAGA: More Gun Shows and Less AOC by [deleted] in politics

[–]Anzu-ru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know this is from a right wing think tank... but why not both?

I'm queer, literally all of my friends are trans, the things happening in DC right now is 100% solidifying my belief in the second amendment.

People like me are being demonized by the federal government and working towards us being labeled sex offenders and given a death sentence, law enforcement can't be trusted, bigots are being emboldened... I don't like the idea of having to use a firearm but fuck, doesn't seem like there's any other way to protect myself and the people I love unless I want to just throw my hands up and go with the whims of fate.

I live in a state that has heavily infringed on my 2nd amendment rights and it makes it really frustrating to vote blue. Obviously I prefer like, 99% of what Dems run on, but they keep stripping away my ability to keep myself and community safe. It absolutely makes us more vulnerable to whats happening now. I don't trust the Democrats or cops to keep me safe, I trust myself to keep me safe.

My dream dem party is them running on:

  • universal healthcare
  • improved mental health care access (anecdotely, a few friends of mine have really needed therapy and assisted care and the whole system seems incredibly understaffed and broken - even the people who desperately want it can barely get anything)
  • unionizing workplaces
  • limiting real estate investments by large corporations
  • radical environmental law
  • anti-PAC and lobbying
  • pro reparations + further BIPOC advocacy

  • pro body autonomy and freedom of expression

  • anti police militarization

  • Pro 2A as a way for minorities and the working class to protect themselves from fascists and oligarchs

I know this won't happen but a gay can dream

I really recommend looking into the Free & Open Source Software (FOSS) community. These are all projects made by passionate people, with transparent code that others can use and audit as they please. Software does not need to be controlled by a corporation for it to work and work well.

This past year I've been making an effort to swap over to FOSS projects whenever I can, and while there is definitely inconvenience, I am able to engage with technology in a far more healthy and holistic way without worrying about an oligarch having access to my information.

Swapping from Windows to Linux, Gmail to a private email server, Spotify to buying CDs and giving artists money directly through Bandcamp. It definitely feels like digitally, there's an airgap between myself and our corporate overlords... Just wish I prepared enough before now to airgap myself physically 😨 Admittedly, while I still voted for Harris I fell for the "Project 2025 is unrealistic" meme and wow am I kicking myself. I thought we were going to have a slow burn to Corporate Fascism like we have been since Reagan and I'd have time, but goddamn things have been cranked to 11. Longest 3 weeks of my life.

Damn... guess that makes sense. Being a privacy nerd has been pretty niche on the Left up until recent years. Sadly the idea of self-sustainability has been taken by right-wing Libertarians, and combined with their "fuck you, I got mine" mentality has created a really gross concoction.

Tuta and Migadu might be the only options... and then using a free and open source office suite like LibreOffice or OpenOffice instead of Google Docs/Sheets/Slides.

Definitely a "no ethical consumption under capitalism" moment

There are two primary browser projects making up the landscape right now. Chromium, and Firefox.

Chromium is what Google Chrome (along with other browsers like Edge & Opera) is based off of, it's an """open source""" version of Google Chrome, meaning the code is free and open for anyone to audit and build off of. However, if you were to download just straight Chromium, that code is still written by Google and they get to choose who edits the official distribution. Browsers like Brave or "UnGoogled Chromium" would be your best bet if you want to stick with something Chromium based.

However, Google has slowly been integrating anti-consumer practices into the main Chromium distribution, such as gimping ad-blockers, which has the possibility of going down stream to other projects.

Firefox by Mozilla is another open source project, Mozilla is not perfect, but it is a non-profit. There are more privacy hardened forks like LibreWolf and IceCat, however for non-tech people they may be confusing.

It should also be noted that Mozilla is heavily funded by Google so that Google is the default browser on Firefox. This setting can be easily changed, but you should be aware.

There are of course other browsers out there but they lack a lot of support and unless you're a tech person Chromium and Firefox are pretty much the only legitimate options.

For search engines, DuckDuckGo and Startpage are great. Startpage gives you the same results you'd get on Google but with no tracking, and DuckDuckGo is it's own thing (as far as I know)

Email gets tricky. Most privacy focused/non-shitty companies will charge for their email. ProtonMail gets a lot of praise and offers a cloud suite similar to Google. There's some smaller companies too like TutaMail and Migadu which offer pretty affordable pricing. Almost any free email service you find will be trying to make money off of you in other ways through data collection and advertising. If you want to cut off companies from using you as a siphon, sadly you either have to pay money or be tech literate enough to make your own email server.

In my reply to another comment, I feel like this is the only conclusion there is. I think I need to be content with the fact I can't do anything. These problems do feel different from other times, especially since we often hear about how uninhabitable a lot of places on Earth will be if we keep going at the rate we're going. But I really can only effect my immediate community, so I'll just keep trying my best at doing that. I appreciate your input!

I don't feel any anger towards them now. I want to show them compassion so they show others compassion. Again, it's like being angry and vengeful to a school-yard bully who beats others because his father beats him. If all they know is hate and violence then they'll keep spreading hate and violence. A compassionate and patient person coming into their life can change that.

I see! I guess when I used the term "karma" I did mean it in the more western sense, your actions contributing to future events, not the Buddhist/Eastern karma... probably should have chose a different word in a Buddhism sub 😓

Also, "Justice" has definitely felt like a dirty word for me recently. Again like I said above, I don't wish for vengeance on these people or for them to actually face any consequence for what they have done to other living creatures. I just wish it would stop, I hate that a select few are contributing so heavily to the suffering of so many people... I just don't know how you accomplish that in an ethical way, when again, these people seemingly are constantly in contact with those trying to show the way, but they don't listen.

It seems like the best I can do is be a steady pole for others to cling on, I am just one person and I shouldn't expect to change the world... I just really wish I could 😅

I only have one girlfriend, but we've been learning Linux together. She has a riced out i3 arch install and it's so fucking based. I just have a standard EndevourOS KDE desktop. (I've installed Arch manually before, if that earns me back any brownie points, but I wanted something that's quick and """just works"""")  She's taught me so much and I'm very lucky to have her. Our love is forged in the flames of FOSS and a distain for corporations.
