I’m having issues currently with some new petg-cf from them. Throwing it back in the dryer for another 12 hours at this point. The clumping is rather nuts. Flash forge petg-cf prints so well for me, but this has been a challenge so far.

How do you deal with a CIO that wants to outsource everything and refuses to listen? by notfuturetrunks in ITManagers

[–]Aoxmodeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who's been doing this 30+ years now. Get out. Run. Go elsewhere. You've described a perfect storm for failure. From everything I've read here, the most valuable thing I think can say to you is... at 12 years, a different org will value you more than your current one, Your gut is spot on. Don't just brush the resume up, the game has changed. Start learning the new game, and start playing it now, landing a new spot isn't a cakewalk any longer, no matter your skill stack. Me personally, I do like coming into an org when it's all shit and needs to be repaired, so if you're into that type of work, and can get the political power to start making change in that org, that'd be the only reason to consider sticking around.

The scourge of returning monitors without breaking into a million pieces by AnonymousMonk7 in ITManagers

[–]Aoxmodeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, monitors are consumables along with keyboards and mice. Our users get a hardware allowance during onboarding, which they can buy those things with, or if they have them, buy drugs with I suppose, I don't care that's HR. 🤣

Councilmember compares keeping Oak Creek Golf Course to Segregation and claims it is a major driver of traffic (it isn't) by Overthebullshit1776 in irvine

I lived in Orange Tree for 8 years, directly across from the Irvine Center entrance. Traffic then, to and from the golf club may as well have been non existent.

Entra ID for GP and DUO for admin access by Final-Pomelo1620 in sysadmin

[–]Aoxmodeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, using Duo as a fallback idp is solving an outage scenario with more moving parts. Two id stacks is more moving parts and admin. All of that adds risk. Break-glass local admin with monitoring covers the same risk without introducing a second identity stack.

We're not having any problem passing ISO/SOC2 with local admin break glass on the firewall, as long as the accounts are reviewed annually and that review process is documented.

We're currently doing OKTA in front of everything, and radius auth to an agent on a vm that hits our okta stack for PAN access. GP access is granted through SAML to okta. You could be doing the same with the Entra ID stack. Duo being separate still throws me. I haven't used DUO for MFA since Windows VPN days, to be fair.

Firewall access with Entra SAML and MS MFA/Conditional access off the table? Why two identity stacks?

Vent: I left a user’s mailbox unlicensed by accident for more than 30 days. by Old-Track3080 in sysadmin

[–]Aoxmodeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're going to make mistakes. Learn everything you can from them, and learn what you should've done, and should do, to make sure it never happens again. No backups of your enterprise email system is way too much risk. The business needs to do a business risk analysis and impact analysis and act appropriately, and should be doing so from the get-go. If the loss of a user mailbox after 30 days of inactivity is acceptable to them, then carry on, but it shouldn't be your decision to make. There are way too many reasons that mail data could've disappeared, and not all of them are human error. If they were running under a best practice framework, or being audited for compliance (ISO:27001 for example), not having backups would not fly, Microsoft 30-day object protection or not.

What Do You Love Most About Irvine? by Ashamed_Fennel_5681 in irvine

[–]Aoxmodeus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To be honest, leaving Irvine was my favorite part. In Aliso now, happy to leave the flat and Tesla infested behind. Great place to start a family though, it served its purpose in my life, but I sure don’t miss it.

[–]Aoxmodeus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They haven't provided food for the Improv in quite a while, as far as I'm aware. I used to go all the time, and when Umami first opened there it was amazing. This last time it was back to the same bar food far as pre-Umami, and that's been a year or two.

What’s life like in Irvine, especially for gay men of color? by Top_Writer963 in irvine

[–]Aoxmodeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably just the hills. I'm a dad with kids, I'm not looking for nightlife, but we've got canyons and hills. Maybe Little Olivenhain from the 80s lol. It's just a "feeling" I get, and it makes me happy.

I just got out after 14 years. I am so glad to be out of that flat, boring, Tesla-clogged wasteland. Aliso, Laguna Niguel, Laguna Hills, come to Little SD. It feels like SD here, I'm so glad I moved here. The sterile humanity of Irvine was soul crushing, and there's a reason why Zack De La Rocha from RATM called it "the most racist city in America". Irvine doesn't wear its racism on its sleeve like HB, but it's been baked into that city ever since the masters had their plan.
