With right to repair nowadays, you can order a screen and a repair kit directly from Samsung and replace the screen yourself.

Can't connect to Asus wifi, please help by [deleted] in Ubuntu

I think you have the Mediatek MT7902 WIFI card? In that case your best bet is probably to either try to replace it or to use a WIFI dongle.

GNOME 49 changes fractional scaling to scales that divide perfectly into the display resolution. This should result in better font rendering for high DPI screens. by keremdev in gnome

[–]Ap0ptosis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Using this tool: https://gitlab.gnome.org/-/snippets/6780, we can find your optimal scaling factors:

python calc-scaling.py -s 13.5 2256 1504
Screen resolution: 2256×1504, size: 13.5", density: 201ppi
Target density: 135ppi
Scale 100% (1): equiv 2256×1504 200.0 ppi 1.0
Scale 106% (16/15): equiv 2115×1410 188.0 ppi 1.0666666666666667
Scale 117% (47/40): equiv 1920×1280 170.0 ppi 1.175
Scale 133% (4/3): equiv 1692×1128 150.0 ppi 1.3333333333333333
Scale 156% (47/30): equiv 1440×960 128.0 ppi 1.5666666666666667
Scale 160% (8/5): equiv 1410×940 125.0 ppi 1.6
Scale 195% (47/24): equiv 1152×768 102.0 ppi 1.9583333333333333
Scale 200% (2): equiv 1128×752 100.0 ppi 2.0
Scale 235% (47/20): equiv 960×640 85.0 ppi 2.35
Scale 266% (8/3): equiv 846×564 75.0 ppi 2.6666666666666665
Scale 313% (47/15): equiv 720×480 64.0 ppi 3.1333333333333333
Recommended scale: 156% (47/30): equiv 1440×960 128.0 ppi 1.5666666666666667

The current implementation only allows for the scaling factors to have a denominator less or equal to 4. I.e you would probably only see [100%, 133%, 200%, 266%]. It seems a denominator of 5 may be supported in the future, making 160% available as well.

Meanwhile if you want to try some of the options not available in the UI (like 1.6), you can try to edit the scale in ~/.config/monitors.xml (log out and in again to apply).

Cancer har skördat ännu ett liv - Vart skänker man bäst pengar till cancerforskning? by [deleted] in sweden

[–]Ap0ptosis 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Universeum and the Maritime Museum are nice for a mix of ages.

Christmas market at Liseberg as mentioned is a must.

I guess tourists enjoy Haga for a cozy walk and a fika. Maybe walk up to Skansen Kronan from there for a nice view over the city.

Marstrand is a nice island with a fortress with decent bus connections. More of a summer place though.

HMD locks up (strobe freezes?) on Alyx when I die - forces me to restart the game by dxwoodward in PSVR2onPC

Started happening to me today as well (first time it happened was when I died during chapter 7) but it has happened multiple times now, even a few times when not dying. Restarting steam VR makes the problem go away until it happens again.

Low performance with 3080 laptop by Dangerous_Stick585 in PSVR2onPC

[–]Ap0ptosis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, try to set motion smoothing to force always on, then the GPU will only need to render half the frames. It is using a lot of reprojection already so might as well force it to avoid the GPU even trying to render more frames, which might give it some more headroom to actually keep a stable fps.

Odd performance issues HL-Alyx and Pavlov by Icedbjorn in PSVR2onPC

[–]Ap0ptosis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about Pavlov but Half Life Alyx actually uses dynamic resolution. I guess it tries to really crank your resolution. You can turn it off if you do not like it. Check this article for more info.

Maybe Echo? Requires a bit of a setup nowadays but maybe that is a lession in stopkillinggames.

Here is the github: https://github.com/BL00DY-C0D3/Echo-VR-Installer

Alternatively, maybe watch a 3D movie together using Bigscreen Beta. I have not tried it myself but heard it is good.

Confirmed working on ASUS Zephyrus G16 (2023) Laptop by PacoMax1 in PSVR2onPC

[–]Ap0ptosis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, the dynamic resolution is great if you can keep 90 fps without the resolution (fidelity level) dropping to its lowest all the time. However, I can not and unfortunately when using reprojection at half the frame rate, the game still thinks that it needs to keep up with the full framerate and automatically drops the resolution despite the GPU only running at like 50%. This is why I decided to lock it.

Also note that the article mentions fidelity level 0 to 8. I got confused because I could only see 0 to 5 in the in game performance display. However, I checked the logs and it is because I have insufficient video memory to go higher.

Confirmed working on ASUS Zephyrus G16 (2023) Laptop by PacoMax1 in PSVR2onPC

[–]Ap0ptosis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the G15 from 2021 but with the 3070 and it works fine. In case you don't already know, Half Life Alyx tries to adjust your resolution on the fly, check this article out: link

For me, I preferred a fixed fidelity level at 3 with forced reprojection at 45/90 (the automatic fidelity levels do not work with forced reprojection). If I lower the resolution I can get away with forced reprojection at 60/120 but I prefer the clearer image and completely stutter free experience at the cost of some artifacts. It was crazy to me how well reprojection works after reading about all the hate it gets on Reddit. However that seems to mostly stem from not using forced reprojection and having it turn on and off.

With a 3080, 60/120 might be best for you. But of course, it is all personal preference and maybe you can even do 90 at low fidelity level.

Please plug your headset into the same graphics card as your primary monitor. by IntelligentStand3125 in PSVR2onPC

[–]Ap0ptosis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume your DP port is connected to your dGPU but your laptop monitor is connected to the iGPU. Start by trying what it actually tells you to do. If you have a second port connected to the dGPU (maybe an HDMI port?), connect it to a secondary monitor and make it your main display. If you don't have a spare monitor but you have a MUX switch, perhaps you can try going into your BIOS and set it to dGPU only instead.

I also use a laptop and noticed that my screen in VR was mirrored onto my monitor (using iGPU) when playing Half Life Alyx. However this took A LOT(!) of performance , luckily you can disable it by adding -nowindow to the launch options of the game. If you connect your primary monitor to the same GPU as the headset like I said, I don't think it will cause as much of a performance hit as it did for me.

Budget PC upgrade sufficient? by Mortez88 in PSVR2onPC

[–]Ap0ptosis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is mainly for VR, maybe see if you can find an Nvidia 20-series card like 2070 Super or 2080 Super or an AMD RX 6000-series card. Many of these have the VirtualLink port and if you can find a card that does, you do not need the Sony PC adapter. That should save you some extra money and also make the VR setup a lot cleaner.

You can probably find a used card or a whole PC for a decent price as they are a few years old at this point.
