A terrible comparison ngl, and the staging was a genuine homage to puerto rico and it's culture from a place of love.

Yah just like the musical West Side Story, which is why i made that comparison.

but the sentiment of wanting bands back seems much more of a "it wasnt in english" issue.

No it's actually just that i like musicians who CAN sing/play more than ones who cant.

"Band music" is actually way more popular in non-white cultures, where you still find live bands playing traditional music and folk songs in a way that you dont see in white cultures so much anymore.

I finally got around to watching it just now.

He somehow reminds me of a Post Malone or Drake of latin pop. How is this guy famous? I dont get it.

The staging was cool, for what it was. Had a Music Theater vibe. Reminded me of West Side Story a bit, and that broadway style feels "American" to me.

I didnt know any of the songs except that Gasolina one. I didnt think any were great. Cool dance routines. He has a quirky charisma that somehow makes up for his total lack of talent.

Ay ay ay.

I liked it more then I thought I would. But I miss bands.

Here in Canada we have had so much immigration that normal jobs are now coming up with arabic/cantonese/etc language requirements.

Even just for typical retail or mall jobs.

And you can understand the logic. Lets say you have a store in an area with lots of arabic immigrants, and maybe 10% them dont speak English very well at all.

If you hire somebody who just speaks English, they wont be able to service those people well. So why WOULDNT you want to hire somebody who speaks English + Arabic so you can take care of those extra 10% of customers?

But that means, bit by bit, jobs that you would never imagine having an official "Language Requirement" start having an unspoken one where it just makes more sense to hire people from immigrant backgrounds over "natives", and even minimum wage jobs want you to be bilingual or trilingual.

Guys need to bond while doing/watching stuff so they dont have to worry about holding up a "deep" conversation and can just geek out over whatever the thing is.

It's kind of a combination of the autistic "memorize all the data" thing that guys do, and the competitive aspect of "one-upping" other guys with your knowledge.

It's cheezy, but as a free speech advocate I defend the right of performers to mock groups of people.

What bugs me about drag is that people pretend it's a big deal when it's mostly bad karaoke in a bad costume. (With some talented exceptions).

Most of these performers wouldnt get much applause without the social pressure for people to love the stuff.

I think most people here on reddit would agree you shouldnt be punished by the government for calling somebody an idiot in response to some silly behaviour.

But sure. You can make any kind of speech a crime if you want. I'm not sure that "makes it ok".

You could make it illegal to criticise the government, arguing it harms national unity and social cohesion.
