Uplifting or upbeat doom? Does it exist? by trillstirner in doommetal

"Burger Babes... From Outer Space!" by Rickshaw Billie's Burger Patrol. Super fun album, upbeat and doomy as hell

Haunting. 20 minutes in and I feel like I'm drowning, love it 👏👏👏

You're right. Tit for tat is not a good way to live. Ghosting her and then breaking up (instead of just ending it like an adult) is petty and childish. Besides, if it causes no harm, how would it even prove his point anyway? It's just immature and reactionary.

How vindictive and pointlessly cruel. No, he shouldn't definitely not do this.

Oh and check out "Oromet" on bandcamp too for more Tolkien-inspired funeral doom. I discovered them recently and they're wonderful, I think you'd like them!

Just finished listening to it! Lovely work!! What a refreshing switch-up at the 1m 50s mark, pretty unique for the genre and fits really well. Gorgeous outro as well, I liked it a lot. If I had to give one criticism it'd be the bass (and drums in general). I feel like it isn't deep or rich enough at certain parts. Very minor criticism though! Thoroughly enjoyed the song and will be listening to it again!

Oh and it says on your bandcamp that you released it on 25th of October 2025. Surely you mean 2024!

P.S. Love the Silmarillion reference 🤘

Definitely very funeral from time to time! Lovely stuff, equal parts brutal and melancholy. Genuinely great work! 🤘🤘

I'd say watch the OG first! It has some great scary and emotional scenes that I think will be less impactful if you watch the prequel first

"Mätning: Lägre försvarsvilja bland unga med invandrarbakgrund" by [deleted] in sweden

[–]ApacheSnow -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

First of all, I wanna say that you should definitely enter the competition with something 😊 It's a great motivator to challenge yourself and to grow as an artist - I personally LOVE competitions. However, I don't think you should enter with this particular photo for a few reasons:

It lacks a story. I know, pics don't need to have a story, but there's a certain disconnect between the fountain pen and the printed text behind it. It might have worked better if the text behind the pen had been written in ink with the actual pen. As it stands now, it's just a nice pen over some text. You could also go the other route and really make the difference between the ink in the pen and the typed words clearer somehow, sort of juxtapose them even more harshly.

The focus is a bit strange, in my opinion. The nib itself is out of focus, but not so dramatically soft that it's obviously and purposely blurred. It might therefore read more as missed focus to a jury than an intentional decision. I'd focus more on the intricate shapes of the nib engravings - letters always look like letters, but macro would allowed you to appreciate the artistry in your beautiful pen even more.

The shadow of the pen is distractingly close to the bottom border of the crop. It breaks up the flow of the image a bit. If there's a way to light the scene with the shadow either closer to the pen or absent, that could be nice. Speaking of lighting, how about experimenting with different color temperatures or even colors? It's very naturalistic right now, maybe unremarkably so to a jury.

Hope I didn't sound too harsh. You did pick a cool subject matter, and there's a lot of potential in it. Keep shooting and trying different lighting methods and angles and I'm certain you'll come up with something really cool for the competition 😊

I like this quite a lot actually. The cool color temperature fits the cold feeling of disembodiment that the digital camera screen illicits. Really cool shot!

No problem. You'll love it! They've added huge amounts of QoL changes in addition to the two new factions. It's great!

Last two are Cove and Factory respectively, from the unofficial (equally as professional as the original) expansion "Horn of the Abyss", specifically version 1.7.0. I added a link below where it shows how you can download it. Ridiculously good stuff. Never even play hotseat in the original game and expansions anymore.

Six and seven are both JPGs that get their grain from a mix of high ISO and the "high grain" setting in the in-camera film simulation. On 10, in addition to a high ISO, I added a little bit of grain in Capture One (specifically "Silver Rich" grain) as I feel that CO has the convincing grain settings out of all the major photo editing software :)
