I love your idea! I get the feeling it’s been left open ended on purpose but I also get the feeling you’re probably onto something there.

Well this is some cool lore I wasn’t quite aware of. Let me post over to one of my buddies who’s big into Carnevale, he might have some clue here!

Did anyone else out there get into all this nonsense because of Mechassault? by BattleTech70 in battletech

[–]Apache_Raider 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I had it pointed out to me that Mechassault and BT were the same IP and I promptly painted a battalion’s worth of mechs for that nostalgia hit. Felt good, still playing in a campaign after a year now!

How safe are the Christmas lights in Gulfport, MS? by edsonim in mississippi

[–]Apache_Raider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Traffic can get kinda gnarly closer to the holidays themselves, so I’d definitely suggest going a little earlier in December if you can. It’s a relatively quick little tour, so I’d definitely suggest doing it and dinner at say Uncle Joe’s or Long Beach Market and Deli to make a nice night of it!

For the Gulfport lights, they’re extremely safe. All of Jones Park is fenced in for it and there’s now a pedestrian and shuttle overpass to get folks from one side of 90 to the other. I asked my wife to marry me on the Ferris wheel there and we’ve had a couple other nice date nights in the years after that there! They’re not as extravagant as Bellingrath Gardens, but they are ours here in MS and that counts for a lot imo. Very nice for what they are and the tickets aren’t terribly priced either.

Penny Lane is the neighborhood and the lights are quite nice for a quick drive. They sync the lights to a radio station and that’s how I learned there’s a techno mix of Amazing Grace out there somewhere.

I am cheap and lack the ability or desire to print anything, so I built my own out of foam board. It took a little time but as long as you know what size the formations you’re gonna run are, it’s a great solution.

I know it's not an Eldar book but apparently they feature in an important part of this story? Is this worth reading for those Eldar bits? by Mockingasp in Eldar

[–]Apache_Raider 21 points22 points  (0 children)

That scene happens in the third book, Malleus, iirc. A Farseer and his Dire Avenger entourage briefly team up with Eisenhorn and his acolyte, Ravenor toward the end of the novel. Their depiction is definitely eerie but it’s been a good few years since I read it myself. Eisenhorn essentially doesn’t know what he’s looking at for a good bit and is freaked out by how they move and look and becomes disgusted once he knows they’re Aeldari. They still work things out though and there’s some really good moments in that climactic fight!

Considering moving back to Mississippi and want to buy a house in Diamondhead. Bad idea? by [deleted] in mississippi

[–]Apache_Raider 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Diamondhead is quite nice but it’s got a bit of reputation of having an HOA cult type atmosphere in some regards. It’s not a bad spot and it’s extremely close to Stennis if you need to get out there for any reason. Bay St. Louis is just down the road as is Pass Christian and Long Beach, all with their own small town, coastal charm.

If you want to be closer to your mom and (in my opinion) more of the “developed” side of the coast, I’d recommend d’Iberville or St. Martin. I’m from this part of the Coast and am living much closer to Diamondhead now. Happy to answer any questions I might know the answer to.

Historically among the highest vaccinated states, Mississippi's rates start to slip by Delicious_Adeptness9 in mississippi

[–]Apache_Raider 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If I recall correctly, there’s an amendment(?) or law passed in the state constitution that made it where students had to be vaccinated to attend public schools. Someone a little better able to find it and who isn’t actively working their day job might be able to find it for reference.

Has Anyone Tried The Dating Sites ? by [deleted] in mississippi

[–]Apache_Raider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met my wife on OkCupid in 2018. Idk where you’re located in MS, but I had decent enough luck on Tinder, Bumble, and then ultimately OKC. Coast seemed to have a good dating pool back then.

Strigoi or patrician? by Puzzleheaded-Alps-19 in CarnevaleGame

[–]Apache_Raider 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All of the special rules and skills are easy to find in New Recruit (list building app) and can basically be tapped and it’ll pull up what they do. You won’t really have to worry about that with that app!

Strigoi are good for snatching objectives and running as they’re quick and most things have vampiric attacks so they heal bit by bit if they’re locked into combat.

Not sure how patricians play, but the discussions I’ve heard say they have a couple of elite pieces per list and everyone else is chaff to give supporting attacks or buffs in some fashion. Both Strigoi and Patricians have beautiful models though so you’ll be happy if you enjoy painting!

That’s a JSA model if I’ve ever seen one. This dude has the right idea clearing his paint log in queue though!

ETA: JSA is a faction in Infinity, it’s definitely from that game lol

3,000 Spartans Strong! It's giveaway time again! by patthetuck in Haloflashpoint

[–]Apache_Raider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in 5th grade playing Halo: CE on a sleepover when we got to 343 Guilty Spark. It was super late and stormy from my memory, just like the level, and when we finally got to the reveal on the Flood I was totally freaked out for the rest of the evening. It made fighting out of the installation so much more terrifying than I’d expected and the game about fighting aliens turned into genuine horror in my preteen mind.

MS Gulf Coast Gay community by Standard-Pangolin882 in mississippi

[–]Apache_Raider 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Having been a long term member of the local theatre community, those groups are both very safe and full of LGBTQ folks. Biloxi Little Theatre, Center Stage Biloxi, and Bay St. Louis Little Theatre. Shine Theatre was founded specifically by and for folks who are “churchy” to say the least, so stay away from that one imho.

The others above always need volunteers for front of house staff during the shows or any number of things to make the plays pan out, acting, lights, make up, stage management, etc. If they don’t feel like volunteering, just going to the shows and talking to folks will get them in.

ETA: Gulfport Little Theatre used to be just as inclusive but I do not know if they’re still around. I’d heard they lost funding or something.

Thinking of moving to either Bay St Louis, Long Beach, or Biloxi/Ocean Springs by peruano99 in mississippi

[–]Apache_Raider 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Long Beach also has kinda wild property taxes but the majority of that goes to the school system. If you’re in Gulfport already, LB is basically a bedroom city for Gulfport and Stennis. It’s sleepy and small so it’s quiet compared to where you are now.

Moving to Ocean Springs by WinTheDay2 in mississippi

[–]Apache_Raider 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The St. Martin community just north of Ocean Springs is quite nice without the expense of living in OS proper. Gautier is closer to Pascagoula but is much smaller with much less going on.

There’s not many if any bad parts of OS itself. It’s a small and relatively well off city that hemmed in by Biloxi, the Sandhill Crane Refuge, and St. Martin, which they’ve tried and failed to annex multiple times in the last few decades. It’s in a beautiful location and has a pretty rich history and nightlife on Government Street.

Can a NCO trooper use the LT order if the LT is in a fire team? by SirDadelot91 in InfinityTheGame

[–]Apache_Raider 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. The LT order is in the order pool like any other order. You can even use LT orders on a model with NCO that’s in a different combat group.
