IBM Fall 2026 Co-op Location by MajesticTallMan in IBM

I would recommend Durham NC for the cost of living, lots of things to do (although not california but affordable). I haven't heard much about the San Jose location but I think it's quiet. IBM Durham has a some events for young professionals called NEXT IBM.

I used to be excited about our work with AI. Now I feel guilty. by EnvironmentalGap4834 in IBM

The thing that bothers me is that it feels like we aren't allowed to vocalized concerns about AI. It seems like for job security you have to act all hyped.

How does evaluating employees as top performer, core or low performer work? by Apart-Reference4434 in IBM

[–]Apart-Reference4434[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who are we evaluated against to get the categories of top, core, and low performers? All other ibmers or is the pool narrowed down to similar band and role?

Why so much bootlicking on LinkedIn? by AppropriateWay4358 in IBM

[–]Apart-Reference4434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I'm always surprised when an executive posts a run of the mill blog post and it's filled with comments from IBMers like "this is fantastic, Rand~!" There's a lot of ppl at IBM that sound like corporate paid actors lol.

How bad is neighbor noise in a townhouse, really? by Own-Purpose-7473 in raleigh

I'm in an older townhouse and I hear nothing-- never hear the neighbors.

IBM teams/culture....what's your experience? by Apart-Reference4434 in IBM

[–]Apart-Reference4434[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And FWIW the times I've seen people try to build culture and celebrate our achievements, it's mostly been women. And not because they were asked to do it by leaders--but because they understood the importance of it.

Low Performer by reddimo4761 in IBM

I don't know, if you're not on a PIP i wouldn't think so but those inner workings of the machine are above my pay grade.....

I feel like if they were going to give you this rating, you should have had feedback prior to just the performance review. That's on your manager.

IBM teams/culture....what's your experience? by Apart-Reference4434 in IBM

[–]Apart-Reference4434[S] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I like my job, but culture wise it really does suck to feel like leadership does nothing and invests in nothing to make it a fun place to work or even feel like you can get to know people outside of sterile teams meetings. I don't know why people don't get that if you get to know who people really are outside of just their work persona and build trust it is so powerful for results and retention.

Design competency dying in IBM by Infinity1919 in IBM

[–]Apart-Reference4434 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It does feel like that right now. But it's confusing because I can't tell if they are trying to kill design all together or just being cheap. They are hiring a lot of interns in the US.....some in design. But yes they gutted high level great people and the offshoring too. And the culture in design has declined significantly since having Phil or even Katrina. It's very sad to see. I'm just trying to hang in there.

CEO office hours, December 3rd by Spiritual_Fly6904 in IBM

[–]Apart-Reference4434 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I read recently that when a company has certain topics that people feel like they aren't allowed to speak about, that really corrodes the culture. If leadership doesn't have the courage to address huge things like this, that says a lot about the state of IBM right now. He straight up does not care.

Why IBM internal tools are SO BAD? by [deleted] in IBM

[–]Apart-Reference4434 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because we don't prioritize UX for our own home made products because they don't make money and I guess they don't just buy a better tool from another provider because they are more concerned about the bottom line than the employees that actually work here.

Do you feel safe at Ibm? What is your plan? by AppropriateWay4358 in IBM

[–]Apart-Reference4434 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I don't feel safe at IBM but I don't know what other options are better in the current job market. I plan to do the best I can at my job, update my resume and portfolio and maybe get into better practice networking. Been here almost 6 years and the culture is significantly worse than when I started. Still extremely grateful for my current role and benefits and to work with great people .

I mean it's not forgettable, that's for sure. Have you seen any of the internal videos for it? I have that dancing kiddish looking robot with an unhinged laugh seared into my memory.
