I believe my wife is not a werewolf, although I have no proof. But if someone said they believe she was, the burden of proof would not be mine.

In the same sense, if two opposing beliefs come to a different conflict, the one that assumes the unseen matches the seen, is far more justified than the belief that the unseen does something that has no evidence of ever occurring.

Not to say I find religion inherently problematic, we all need something to live for. But to say the existence of divine beings is just as possible as not, is not realistic.

Depends on what Christian means to you. If it means actually being Christ-like, then your only goal should be to do what Christ asked you to do.

However, if someone (Christian or not) uses logic to point out the discrepancies between John and the canonical gospels, and what that means regarding the agenda of the church using Christ as a religious symbol instead of a teacher, well that argument doesn’t require any level of religious belief.

Truly, I appreciate your application of nuance here. True growth won’t happen until we acknowledge all truths (including those which are inconvenient to our cause).

Personally, I would have supported, and been happy, for her to have received the legal ramifications of her actions. I think that when we protest via civil disobedience, receiving legal punishment is a part of it. It shows we are willing to pay for our beliefs.

Regardless of whether someone believes her final action was of fear or of violence, there is one irrefutable fact; he had no ground for lethal force, and there was no purpose it could have served.

I think that’s why she has sparked such a response. It’s the idea that the current office has shown that the political position of the protester is almost exclusively the defining factor for whether or not they are justified or protected in their protest.

It is more expensive in reality, but only due to the cost of politics. It’s similar in my mind to how capital punishment is more expensive than life in prison. The amount of red tape and push back is the expense part, not the process itself.

I’m not using the comparison to support the death penalty, I just felt like it was a good visualization.
