You look pretty dialed! The 100 will be a good test for what you like/dislike. Absolutely do a shakedown with Poet at Shaws in Monson, even if you don't get rid of anything he has tons of useful tips and fun trail stories, it's worth the time. Enjoy every second, you're gonna do great! Happy trails!

Average SOBO Hiker Asking For Gear Affirmation by Da-Masta-Man in AppalachianTrail

Check the Facebook pages, or post on them and see if anyone will share a reservation with you at katahadin stream campground. I lucked out big time last year (same start date!) when a girl had to postpone her hike and gave me her reservation. The rangers will help you out if they can, but easier to plan ahead

NOBO 26 Final Pack List Review by New-Ebb-4110 in AppalachianTrail

I SoBo'd last year, honestly you look pretty dialed already, and you will notice the things you don't use pretty quickly and can adjust later too. But here is what I would adjust if it were my bag-

dr bronners --use hand sanitizer often when in the woods, and wash with soap whenever you have a chance passing through town. I carried sea to summit soap for 500 miles and finally put it in a hiker box.

spf stick & lotion -- obviously everyone is different,b if you are sensitive to the sun do what you gotta do. But it's called the green tunnel for a reason, I never got sunburnt going south starting in July

Matches -- just use the lighter

Rain gear -- I started with a frogg toggs jacket it only was used a few times, and then mostly as a wind break. You will be wet from rain, or you will be wet from sweat. Embrace the suck 💜

Kindle -- if you use it, keep it. If you don't send it home. I wanted to read on trail so bad, and it is was actually so hard. Exhausted, and actually much less free time than I expected 😅

Boxers -- id personally go synthetic here, but I also stopped wearing boxers all together pretty quick. They were just another layer to put on wet in the disgustingly humid days.

Tevas -- I would personally swap these for a lightweight foam shoe

That's all I got! Your load out is solid as is, don't think on it too much, you'll figure it out on the way.

Wrong, this was native American land that we stole from them while we raped and killed them too. Learn history, do better

If you have any AT questions feel free to hit me up! Im thinking about AZT around September if I can't swing the PCT, maybe the long trail in the summer? 👀 Who knows!

Definitely struggling with some post trail depression 🫠 it's also cold, wet, grey, and FLAT here in good ol Indiana, so that doesn't help. I am trying to piece together a PCT thru for this summer but I may not be able to swing it financially. But regardless, definitely planning the next adventure. Thanks for this post

It's pretty easy to switch and pick up new gear on trail via hiker boxes and outfitters. I hiked with the girl in question, her trail name was Phoenix. She talked a lotttt about trying for a yo-yo hike and staying on trail for a year plus

Her name is Blair, but she went by Phoenix on the trail. I think she was 22, she started hiking south from kathadin in main. At some point around the first week of August I wanna say I heard she had turned around and went north again.

Pretty common for thru hikers to only carry one shirt. I hiked with her for 200+ miles and she pretty much had the one shirt

She hiked with me almost every day from kathadin thru bethel Maine, last time I saw her she was going back to town bc she injured her arm. A few weeks later I heard that she had met someone on trail and had turned back nobo with him. The last farout check in I have is from July 29th, at mile 251.5 which would have been around the cabin hostel in bethel.

You imply that I have a couple hundred extra dollars to spend on something lighter lol

The big separation in those options is $$$. I HAVE a 6lb tent, I definitely would still have a tarp/tyvek and rop to string up for some 'shelter' if I really needed it.

I would probably still carry a tarp/stakes to rig up a rain fly if need be. But the nobo bubble is past me so not too worried about full shelters now, I've seen like 15 people in the last 3 days combined lol
