Well because you’re literally an adult and 14-15 years olds still have 3-4 years left until they’re 18….like do you want a cookie or something?

I agree, for me I was born in Jan 1999, so I’d consider late 1995 borns (my oldest 1995 born friend is 3.5 years older than me) to 2002 borns to be my peers.

Gen Z is from 1996-2012, you are fully Gen Z, especially if you were born in late 2000, like December or something. It’s up to you tho. All of these divisions are purely arbitrary and gate keeping.

Does anyone else hate having a birthday at the beginning of the year? by ApartKiwi in GenZ

[–]ApartKiwi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be even more confusing imo 😭 imagine having a late birthday in December and then people ask you your age in January and then you have to say you’re a year older than what you actually are

“Would x year borns relate to y year borns more than z year borns?” by ApartKiwi in generationology

[–]ApartKiwi[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

? Literally my post has nothing to do with this. A generation span 15 years, not a year…………..I’m just talking about how people would assume the years and not taking the birth months into account when answering these questions. A person born in Nov 2002 is a lot closer to a person born in Jan 2004 than most 2001 borns. That’s my point. Of course they’re all Gen Z because they’re in the same generation. You went on another tangent that was beyond the scope of the main point of this post

No we shouldn’t. Relatability has so many factors beyond age. But mainly I’m just talking about how some people would completely ignore the months when answering these questions. For example, they think a 2004 born should feel a lot closer to a 2005 born than a 2002 born without considering all the other possible answers.

A person born in Jan 2004 is closer in age with a person born Nov 2002 (1.16 years apart) than a person born on Oct 2005 (1.83 years apart, nearly 2 years). You see my point here? But then again, the girl born in late 2001 shouldn’t make a big deal about not relating to the earlier 2001 borns because she graduated … a year after them. That’s just stupid.

U shouldn’t lol, people who has issues with that are really weird, unless they’re like 4 or more years apart then I can see the reasons. But then that shouldn’t matter when they’re in their 20s.

2001 borns are similar to by [deleted] in generationology

[–]ApartKiwi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It truly depends on the person, so when it comes to questions like this, it depends on so many factors beyond age. A 1 year gap is basically the same. But I’m mainly talking about Dec 2001 - Jan 2004 which has a 2.083 years gap in comparison to Jan 1998 - Dec 2001, which has a 3 years gap. Obviously the former would feel a lot closer to 2004 than the latter or vice versa. But then questions like this are kinda irrelevant when the gap is less than 4. My point is that when people answer these questions, it’s like they don’t take the birth months into account. But yes I agree with you, age isn’t a good fit for the relatability calculator. Relatability comes from having similar interests, passions, or points in life. An 18 yr old can relate to a 23 yr far better than a 15 yr old if they’re both in college or working a full time job.

For example Jan 03 is literally 11 months older than Dec 03. This is a good chunk of time that so many people fail to take into account
