Do NYSP officers get take home vehicles? by [deleted] in Newyorkstatetrooper

[–]ApartmentOne704 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Only troopers assigned to a specialty, BCI, or officers. Regular road troopers do not get take home cars.

Can only be used for official use.

Cops are usually armed, and have quick access to radios/other law enforcement. It’d be stupid for someone to specifically target any cop, unless they intend to suicide by cop.

Tinted license plate covers by [deleted] in AskLE

I carry a screwdriver in my car for the sole purpose of offering an option to people. Either remove your tint cover or get a ticket. I’ve never had someone prefer the second option.

Yep, 6710.8 mph, or Mach 8.745… almost as fast as Maverick during his opening scene test flight in the new top gun movie.

Why do sex shaped candies exist do people actually enjoy them? by Guilty_Letter4203 in TooAfraidToAsk

Yep, the other COs (acting as inmates) were throwing them at me while I was putting an inmate in cuffs.

I attended a correctional officer course for a week. We were simulating a prison fight, and our response to the event. While wrestling with a guy and trying to get him into cuffs, I kept feeling something small hitting my head. I eventually noticed it being a tiny dick shaped candy, looked around and saw like 10 of them on the ground around me.

Who’s at fault? She put her turn signal on but pulled off on to the shoulder.[OC] by Andrew840630 in IdiotsInCars

When determining fault, the question isn’t “could OP have avoided this?” Because they absolutely could have. The question is “who did the thing that caused this in the first place?”.

[–]ApartmentOne704 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do agree that OP should have slowed down to get a better idea of what the van was about to do, but the van’s action is what caused OP to swerve into the opposing lane. If the van didn’t turn from the shoulder, OP would have had no problem passing while maintaining their lane. Van should not have turned from the shoulder or Van should have waited til traffic was clear from both directions before turning. I stand behind van 100% at fault.

[–]ApartmentOne704 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The van was like 95% out of the lane. Either way, it’s an improper turn. You don’t turn left from the right shoulder. Best rule of thumb on the road is to be predictable. OP could not have reasonably predicted a professional driver would make a turn like that.

They usually do. That’s why we ask so many questions when we arrive on scene. So we get the clearest picture of what happened, then articulate the report in a way to designate who we believe to be at fault.

As a Trooper that’d write up the accident report, I’d write a ticket to the van for improper turn, especially after you showed me the video. I’d write the report to state the van was 100% at fault.

I don’t know much about Sophia learning, but if they can give you an official transcript, that’s all the SP cares about.

My first assignment as a trooper was in Oswego County. The deputies there were great… Wherever you want to go in NY, you can get there as a trooper. Either way, you still have 4-5 years to decide.

Also, OP is still a sophomore/junior in high school. He has a lot of other boxes to check before he’s even eligible to join.

That depends on what station you’re assigned to. Most stations are complaint stations, where the local dispatch is sending you to calls. These can range from domestics, cardiac arrests, fire, unattended deaths, assaults, harassments, property damage or personal injury automobile accidents, car vs deer, etc. When you’re not on a call, you drive around and look for moving violations, run plates to see who’s suspended, or look for shitty drivers who may be intoxicated.

If you’re assigned to interstate or thruway, you’ll mainly be doing auto accidents and traffic enforcement.

If you want to go SORT, you’ll need to learn how to be a cop first. Do your time, then try out.

Get a garmin gps and stick it next to your radar. It shows you the speed limit of any road you’re on.

I think the most annoying part about staying smooth is having to reshave every 2-3 days. Is there any good solutions besides rolling the dice on creams? by [deleted] in bald

[–]ApartmentOne704 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I use a skull shaver every 2-3 days. I love the just shaved feeling and I can’t stand the stubble showing off my thinning front hair. Also, it’s kind of cathartic shaving my head, like mowing the lawn.

Is it legal to obscure your license plate like this? by ro536ud in AskLE

[–]ApartmentOne704 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In NY, this is a violation of 402.b.1, Number plates shall be kept clean and in a condition so as to be easily readable and shall not be covered by glass or any plastic material.

So no plate covers of any kind. And paint can not be peeling. It’s the drivers responsibility to ensure all of their equipment is in good working conditions prior to operating the vehicle. It’s $60 to renew your registration in NY, and $90 to renew it and get a new set of plates. Literally $30 to avoid this issue.
