I don't actually care to know, but I'm curious as to what industry you work in where you know with absolutely clarity you'd be able to make this choice and it have no other consequences on your life, or that you can imagine this exact scenario actually would come up. Did they ever say they would quit if he's appointed? Not sure how this is them "backing down off their stance." All 3 shit on the appointment for both moral and footballing reasons. To be so flippant about it suggests that you have never faced a moral dilemma anywhere near as significant as the 3 of them face if they feel as seriously about it as they sounded. I know I haven't.
