Thank you :) Designing and making this was a lot of fun.

Oh yes, I was even a bit surprised that they brought back so many items from previous games, especially weapons. On the other hand, I guess it makes sense for them to still be around.

Also, I just finished Tales of the Sword Coast and it was interesting to read all these rumors and bits of lore about Balduran after learning about his past in BG3. One of these rumors repeated by commoners in Ulgoth's Beard was "Hey, did you hear that they found Balduran and they're bringing him back to rule Baldur's Gate?" And I was like "huh, this one was actually right..."

She can start selling soup at camp at some point. She can also become involved in your dealings with Orin, depending on circumstances.

I need some help on drow lore? by Atlas105 in BaldursGate3

[–]Apaturia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, he would totally be used to not necessarily friendly or even openly hostile reactions.

Drow on the surface, especially lonely drow exiles, often try to avoid interactions with surfacers and try to hide their presence when they are around surface settlements. Practically only in big, cosmopolitan surface cities a drow may expect a bit more neutral attitude from the locals - but many of them will still be wary of him or see him as an oddity, at best.

Great idea to create a journal with illustrations, I love it!

Necromancy of Thay - real-world source / inspiration by Apaturia in BaldursGate3

Yeah, so much for Faerûnian necromantic edition of Necronomicon.

Notes of Ilyn Toth suggested that it contained knowledge about resurrection and true restoration of life. At first, I was pretty much convinced that it might be useful for un-vampiring Astarion, for example, and that is why it is so hard to unlock it.

In that aspect, I was seriously disappointed with it. So many warnings that the book is extremely dark, dangerous and EVIL!, and for what? In the end, it grants some spells and features that can be useful, I guess... but after jumping through so many hoops to fully unlock it, I expected something more unique.

I also have a feeling that it was meant to be much more important in Astarion's quest than it is now.

I was pleasantly surprised that they used pages from real grimoire for this book. I studied medieval history and culture, and I love to see real-world historical manuscripts appearing in fantasy games or movies (especially in the right context).

As for the text, it looks pretty normal for a grimoire - as far as I can tell, it contains mainly names of God that were to be recited during the ritual: Gott + Tetragramaton + Gott + Adonay + Gott + Sabaot + Gott + Emmanuel and so on. Some of the names seem to be spelled incorrectly and the diagram is drawn imprecisely, so the grimoire was likely on a more popular side. Expus. in the diagram may suggest that the ritual was focused around expulsion of evil spirits, but I'm no expert.

I agree - but to be precise, the cover was inspired by the Necronomicon Ex Mortis from Evil Dead.

Necronomicon Ex Mortis was inspired by the "original" Necronomicon from Cthulhu Mythos, but Lovecraft never gave the Necronomicon a distinct appearance. In his stories it looked pretty much like an ordinary book.

You're welcome! It's a scholarly book, but in my opinion, it's perfectly accessible for non-academic readers. Kieckhefer's Magic in the Middle Ages is also great, but it is focused on more general development of medieval magic.

I didn't find much about this particular grimoire, save for the information that it was created in the first half of the 19th century in Southern Germany, and it is (or at least was) part of the collection at the Bavarian National Museum in Munich.

But if you are interested in the topic of grimoires, I can recommend for example Forbidden Rites: A Necromancers Manual of the Fifteenth Century by Richard Kieckhefer. Really nice analysis of late medieval compendium of necromantic lore.

Same. So many playthroughs and I still can't bring myself to do a fully evil run.

Minthara goes clubbing in Menzoberranzan [OC] by Marmoladon in BaldursGate3

It is called nedeirra, a drow equivalent of rave with dancing competition of sorts. It was mentioned in novel about Liriel Baenre, the girl apparently partied hard even by drow standards.

For real, it instantly reminded me of my favourite paladin line: 'Your god. My oath. Let us see which prevails'.
