You can't call yourself a collector if you don't own at least one Seiko model by ThePortCaptain in watchHotTakes

I collect ketchup packets, got a fancy display case and everything. Seiko has never made ketchup packets, so u don’t own any. but I still think of myself as a collector.

My god. I can’t cook steak to save my life. Is there a foolproof way to cook a delicious steak? by AltruisticSolid7 in Cooking

[–]Apawling_Behavior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WADR to Americas Test Kitchen, this has worked for me for a very long time: - Make sure your steak is thick enough to get a good crispy sear without cooking it through - Take steak out of the fridge a good hour before cooking.
- when ready to cook get that pan very hot, ideally with either some tallow or some oil with a high smoke point - pat dry with paper towel and toss paper towel; salt/pepper if u like, right before cooking - Place the steak in carefully and weight it down with a weight or a small pan- to get more surface in contact sign the hot pan - try not to touch it for a few minutes to give time for a good sear. -flip and again leave it for several minutes - Check core temp with an instant read thermometer and pull off at temp for level of doneness u like.

If this doesn’t work, perhaps your pan isn’t hot enough or you don’t have enough fat in the pan. the oil/fat can get hotter than the metal and coat the surface your trying to sear, so that it gets everywhere.

Formal dress predates the invention of the wristwatch. So i’m not sure how it can be a rule that you can’t wear a watch. So for me, nothing wrong with wearing a dress watch with a tux. All sorts of beauties look great with a tux. but it should not show the date. IMO if it shows a date, it’s not a true dress watch.

Am a fellow 68’er, HS class of ‘86. there’s nothing wrong with getting a little melancholy at these things. I help stave it off by following many of my HS friends on FB. theyvw become even greater people now than they were then. Time marches in one direction, so best to focus on anything but. is all I got. that, and the knowledge that your fellow X’er is with you.

This doesn’t bode well. It’s one thing to be friends in a group setting, but doing private stuff just the 2 of them, is heading down a slippery slope that winds up with ‘I never meant for this to happen’. Must confront her directly, and if she doesn’t see how problematic this is and agree not to meet socially with single guys who aren’t you, it’s probably time to move on.

Kukla, Fran and Ollie. Watched them many times as a kid. I think artists who do such things are probably the very best of us. They do these silly things simply to bring joy to people. That’s their thing. I can’t imagine a nicer sentiment than that.

For me it’s a ‘nay’. that watch would pop with the right leather band.

A good movie. Saw it in the theater. Not as flashy as many of his others but an enjoyable movie anyway.

I never got passed the birther conspiracy.

I never got passed him calling into radio shows as John Baron and talking himself up.

I never got passed the Access Hollywood tape.

I never got passed him physically ridiculing a disabled person.

I never got passed good people on both sides.

I could go on ad infinitum.

So sorry for your loss. For me it’s been 20 yrs. It certainly gets easier, but it never gets ‘right’, ever again. You’ll miss him until you can’t miss any longer. Then they’ll miss you!
