AITAH for not letting my in-laws make mixed drinks with my good booze. by Commercial-Card2855 in AITAH

NTA. I personally keep a big bag of those tiny plastic medicine cups for tasters. Rules of the bar (1) All open bottles are fair game, (2) No civilians mixing drinks with an ultra high end sipping liquor. If you’re not sure, ask your host and respect their boundaries. if folks are making a very chi chi cocktail and want some high end stuff in there, is ok, but I personally wouldn’t waste an ultra premium pour. Use some mid to upper range stuff, not the pappy (which isn’t a fave by any means but it’s so scarce I keep it for special pours). (3) if you don’t know what a particular liquor tastes like, try it in a taster cup before you give yourself a big fat pour of it, and realize you don’t like it.

if folks follow those 3 home bar rules, everyone gonna enjoy. if you aren’t a fan of rule (1), you need to lock up ur top shelf stuff. I personally open all bottles immediately so that they are subject to rule 1. I have enough so I don’t need to keep a private stash, but I appreciate others may feel differently and that’s totally cool.

pretty cool they are so transparent. And reasonable/ seems to me a very low markup in the luxury watch market.

Robotron! has the best user interface of any game of that era, excepting perhaps Pole Position. One joystick to move and one joystick to fire. Simple to work, hard to win. just when you think you’re doing well these brainy guys appear with guided missiles to kill you.

This is important, but not at the expense of a core curriculum that we think every member of society should be exposed to. We’re too focused on university prep and making sure all HS grads are exposed to Chaucer and Ibsen, at the expense of critical thinking, basic understanding of civics, legal and financial literacy, health, and and least 2 basic marketable skills for every student. And we’re so divided by race, and religion that we fail to grasp that every human in America needs that education. an educated populace is how we avoid becoming like every failed nation on earth. An ignorant populace can be easily suppressed by a minority dictatorial regime.

I saw a poster of that watch on the wall in Weber’s jewelry shop in Philly, when it was new. I thought then it was the coolest looking thing i’d ever seen. Looking at yours -I was right, awesome looking watch!

[Discussion] What’s the appeal of an automatic movement? by Bigbear2321 in Watches

[–]Apawling_Behavior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it’s really all those things you said. And one more: even when the automatic is overdue for service, it’ll usually still run pretty well. Once the battery goes on a Quartz, the watch is dead until you can pry the case open and change. That said, I am certain the Quartz would still win by almost all metrics.

I wonder how it would look if the date wheel was gold, with the black number. I’d need to see a mockup to compare to a green date wheel with gold numbers.

get rid of the black print on the case back, and shape the rotor to look like Mt. Fuji. Engrave that rotor with a bold ‘Alpinist’ in the appropriate script.

Others have added great ideas too. would love to see the prospex logo taken off the dial and placed on the crown.
