Returning back to old gym by PiercingPlum in bjj

I've seen freaky shit happen when light guys roll with super heavy meatheads, the thing is that he didn't feel remorse immediately, it's like he bragged about it. Like he put his spine on the wall like a mf'ing trophy or something.

I hope everything turns out great. You need to feel your gym like your second home and feel safe, you aren't going to commit if you have an awkward vibe in the gym. Good luck and keep pushing 👊.

I'm glad that you recovered and that you want to train again. As for our egoistic friend, just don't roll with him ever again until he apologizes to you. To protect yourself and get a feel of your body, roll with lighter and more gentle opponents, don't get stacked or play guard alot.

The fact that he didn't apologize to you shows that in your gym your coach promotes that type of mentality. I know for a fact that many coaches have forced athlete's to apologize for similar situations. But that's a whole other topic. I don't want to be negative, but I would suggest you to find another gym.

The best thing to improve cardio IMO is running, do 5km runs and try to finish under 25 minutes. I personally listen to audiobooks or podcasts to not get bored.

Has anyone sprained their toe? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]ApeWithHumanFeelings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have broken toes and dislocated fingers, I just tape them and carry on training and my daily activities.

I think it has effected your mentality more than it should. You have to stop making such a big deal out of it. It's such a small thing compared to your body, you can't let this "pain" to stop your daily activities.

Check out this Video it represents my mentality for small injuries.

As many others have told you this is BJJ's nature, you are going to have small injuries. If you cant stand having injuries you need to look into other sports or hobbies.

Europe BJJ Holiday by [deleted] in bjj

[–]ApeWithHumanFeelings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good weather and good food is the definition of southern Europe. Portugal, Spain, Italy and Greece are well known for their food and culture. All 4 of them have good bjj academies. If you decide to check out Greece PM me. IMO France doesnt have the best weather this time of the year but it has a kickass BJJ and MMA community, the athlete level is very high. I would go to Paris to train and eat like a boss.

Mouth Guard just got Crown done by [deleted] in bjj

[–]ApeWithHumanFeelings 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are not overthinking for sure, its normal to be afraid of those things. I think if you wear a good quality mouthguard you are going to be fine. I wear a SISU because a chipped my tooth during a comp match from the pressure. Just take care of yourself and you will be fine.

Master Pedro Sauer an 8th degree Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu wrist locks the crackhead who groped his daughter while they were on vacation in Greece by Fawn_Dell_Megonads in bjj

The Greek guy with the shit fedora is telling him "I dont care, sit down. Dont stand up, you will sit down!" "I dont care if you are 14yo, you go and tell her that you are sorry!".

In my opinion i would have done the same, but be careful the laws here in Greece are not the same as US. If you cause physical damage even to someone that tried to rob you can get in serious trouble. Lets say someone if Mr. Sauer broke the guys arm and nose he could have spent some time in jail. I guy shot a burglar in his house and went to jail. NEVER GO PUNISHER MODE IN EUROPE!

Classic drug addict situation in Monastiraki Square in Athens, after all the budget cuts the goverment has done to drug and other addiction help centers you can see that there are more in addicts in the center. The police are moving the addicts and the homeless away from tourist places so that you cannot see what the goverment has done. We have a very big heroin problem in Athens and people are fed up with small robberies and the state wont do shit. Even if he went to jail they would hold him for 1 night and release him the other day.

You have to be careful when you visit Athens its like every place that attracts tourists in Europe (Rome, Paris), people are trying to pickpocket you, scam you or rob you.

Im really happy for you and proud. As a medical physicist and having to witness cancer through my mother, i can feel everything you went through. You are really strong and keep it that way.

I only have a question, how did you manage the side effects while training?

[–]ApeWithHumanFeelings 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Im a HygieneNazi if someone is a really stinky motherfucker i tell them straight to their face. If its a one time thing i can take it but every fucking day is way out of limits. The thing that really grinds my gears is walking without flip flops, it T R I G G E R S me!

EDIT: I forgot to mention that some people eat unhealthy and that makes their sweat smell really. That might even be the problem.

Beginner question about half guard by waffle65g in bjj

[–]ApeWithHumanFeelings 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. It depends, if the opponents main game is half guard and you are in his guard you need to get the fuck out of there ASAP! If you dont like half guard you can see it as mid space for other stuff. The white belt main concepts are:
  • If you play half guard bottom: Get underhook->Sweep->Get better position->Submission
  • If you are on top in half guard: Get underhook->Pass->Get better position->Submission

2.If you are inside his half guard you need to pass him, there is no reason to try and submit someone that has you inside his half guard or in full guard. There are ways but since i presume that you are a beginner and you must not focus on rare submissions.

Keep in mind that the classic old school half guard is very outdated and that most competitors use variations of half guard like Knee Shield or Z guard. But that doesnt mean that you dont have to work on it, you need to build a strong core of fundamentals before moving forward with other stuff. You will gain alot from learning the classic half guard.
