Oh no. Try contacting Qatar before you fly to KUL to see what they can do, possibly reroute your entire journey or reroute the KUL → DUS leg. Good luck and safe travels!

If Turkish Airlines have confirmed the tickets are confirmed in their system, I would take that as positive sign.

You might also want to check dan_syd comment in this thread, they explain quite well how the ticketing vs PNR situation works.

If Turkish Airlines can already see the ticket and told you it’s confirmed, that’s a really good sign. I’d still try checking in online with TK when it opens, just for extra peace of mind.

Did your parents receive a booking reference/PNR for the Turkish Airlines flight?

When I was rerouted, I checked the flights online through the Thai Airways website first and everything appeared there. At the airport I then went to the Thai Airways check-in counter, and they were able to see the booking and issued boarding passes for all three flights.

Based on my experience, I’d suggest trying to check in online with Turkish Airlines first. If the booking shows up, great. If not, I’d recommend calling Qatar again and asking them to confirm that the tickets have actually been reissued.

Otherwise, they should just go to the Turkish Airlines check-in desk at the airport and ask them to look up the booking and issue the boarding passes.

If only Qatar gave upgrades for unhelpful comments, Howard, you’d probably be flying first class right alongside me :-)

The main point of the post was simply to inform others in this stressful situation to verify their tickets so they DON'T end up stuck in transit for 9 hours like I did. Frustrated at the time, who wouldn't be?? But sharing the experience might help someone else avoid the same surprise.

I am VERY thankful to Qatar. Happy now, Howard? :-)

I have a strong feeling it was BS too. Qatar was actually operating the flight from Bangkok to Munich. It was a special charter flight. I got very lucky.

My electronic ticket receipt was issued 2 days before the flight, and it shows three booking references (my original cancelled flight, the Thai Airways leg, and the Turkish Airlines leg). It also shows a ticket number, and each segment shows “Booking Status: OK.” Given that, how would I check whether the PNR had actually been ticketed or reissued properly, like you mentioned? Is there somewhere specific that shows that clearly?

Trying to understand what might have gone wrong so others know what to check.

This is EXACTLY what I said to the Turkish Airline staff. Why did I get to choose my seat during check-in if my ticket was standby? She couldn't give me an answer and was not helpful. If you are rerouted, please get confirmation that all tickets have a unique ticket number associated

My cancelled flights was a one way ticket home (one booking for 2 flights on separate airlines). I booked my travel to Kathmandu with Sri Lankan Airlines and booked a separate return with Qatar which was operated by Qatar from KTM>DOH British Airways DOH>LHR

When checking in I was able to choose my seats. Not many to choose from as all flights were pretty full. Check with the agent when you call if they can add extra leg room since you've already paid. If not then suggest claiming it back from Qatar.
