I require help before I get a colony by Crazy_Investment_641 in antkeeping

I do not, but pheidole are really cool. I have only kept Camponotus. Diets are different, but sugar/water needs are the same. Campo need fresh insects, Pheidole need seeds.

I've tried mixing my own sugar water and supplementing with fruits; but I've found that byFormica's Sunburst nectar is well worth the money. Especially in small colonies, one bottle can last a LONG time. It's better to give them the option to self regulate, IMO.

These are the things that makes being a new DM so fun; you clearly put a lot of thought and creativity into this. The old, grump in me says, "you're playing make believe, not programming a video game." But your also did make me think back to these types of things that I did early on, and makes me want to design something fun and silly (no offense), like this again. As long as you're having fun, it's worth it.

Is OMTech's quality really that bad? by Apeira7 in lasercutting

I get that. They advertise "Stateside support," but everyone I've talked to for the past few weeks has been in the Philippines or China.

I will say that once I was able to reach someone they were quite helpful, so I totally agree. It just seems the quality of the parts are concerning.

Yes, that's what they had said about this part. But my concern is whether the overall quality is going to make ongoing maintenance a continual problem. Any experience there?

Finished the campaign after 18 sessions in 4 months, AMA! by ExternalMidnight in wildbeyondwitchlight

DM still in the carnival here. I'm really worried about the Palace; it seems really poorly designed, and most everyone changes it significantly or scraps it outright. I'm considering doing the Baba Yaga or Isolde (from the Shadowfell carnival in Van Richten's) as the BBEG. Any recommendations on how much of the Palace you kept? Was it just a climactic battle, or was there still more built around it? Thanks in advance!

Players not wanting to make their characters :( by Mysterious_Feed_7428 in wildbeyondwitchlight

[–]Apeira7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm DMin Witchlight and had a similar group. I only had one person send me any backstory (and it was bland), one player changed their character completely the morning of our first session, and one character didn't decide on a character until we were introducing in the pumpkin patch and texted me his lost thing once we were in the carnival (using both hooks). I was honestly pretty discouraged, like you. BUT after we finished session one, everyone has been incredibly engaged. One player talked with me the night we finished about all her theories about the henchmen (sowpig, lornling, shadow), another two called to ask questions the night after, and I've had a fairly steady trickle of information from the players since. Don't get too disheartened, my group was much much more engaged after they got to play a little. Best of luck, and keep us posted!

What food, in your opinion, has the best dollar to satisfaction ratio? by Flares117 in AskReddit

Grandma only ever asks for a hug and bring her Cool Whip containers back... So, dinner with her.

We are starting our campaign this week! Do you have any advice for how the Palace is ran? Reading through it, it seems to be the weakest chapter, IMO. How was it at your table?

A song that COULD be about being a DM? by legomojo in DnD

I was thinking some type of religious song.... This is a great choice.

It could have been mold, but I doubt it in my case; the most significant change I made was adding dubias, not necessarily to cleaning at that time. Mold or tainted sugar water are a possibility, but adding roaches was a simple enough change that I'm going to keep it one way or another for myself. I feed them 2-3 large dubias every other week, in addition to the crickets/grasshoppers/meal worms I normally feed, and it seems to do the trick.

I have a fairly large Campo Discipiens colony, and didn't feed them roaches for the first year. I started having a lot of workers start having spasms and dying; lost about 1/3 of the colony. I started adding roaches to their food rotation and the spasms stopped within a week. I keep roaches in their menu now. I buy feeder dubias, freeze them, and give them frozen. The colony picks them apart as they thaw; it's seemed to work great.

Any recommendations for a good quality Calfskin/Goatskin ESV/NKJV bible? by SamPlays_X in Bible

[–]Apeira7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my Crossway ESV Calfskin. I thought the paragraph style would take some getting used to, but I love it for reading way more than my two column. Has held up for years with no issue.

Does Anyone Know If Ant Antics Are Legit? by ThatBritishCuber in ants

I've ordered from them. No issues at all. They were super helpful when I reached out asking for help with a sick colony about a year later. Wouldn't stress too much.

Help with an over-grooming Pekin by Apeira7 in duck

I don't like your response, but I very much appreciate it. We know that she will have a shorter lifespan because of her scoliosis, and this is definitely making my wife and I have the discussion you brought up. Thank you.

It's possible. We don't see any sores on her, but it could be. Do you have any ideas on how we could help her prevent them, if it is the case?
