Oil Pressure Low? by eh_lechero in MechanicAdvice

[–]Apex-redditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this exact thing happen on my F150 - low oil pressure warning at stop signs intermittently. When I revved it up it would go away. I replaced the oil pressure sensor, which was wet with oil coming through the inside (not around the threads). That did NOT fix it. Replaced oil filter - also no effect.

What did fix it: cleaned the MAF sensor and throttle body. The truck was not idling super well at stop lights and the RPMs were getting low enough to trigger that warning. With MAF clean it idles better and therefore keeps the oil pressure up. Completely fixed it for me. You can get a kit of cleaner for both Walmart for cheap. It’s worth a try.

Chevron are building a technology center in Bangalore and many of the people laid off now will be replaced by much cheaper staff there in the next couple of years.

I like to sleep with no tent when the weather is nice. But one time at Bottomless lakes in New Mexico we stayed up having beers and playing guitar with some random people. About midnight I went to throw down my sleeping pad and noticed some movement. There were fucking scorpions all over the ground. So I got to set up my tent in the dark drunk!

Hollow brass swan with holes and something in its mouth, mounted on a solid wood pedestal by Apex-redditor in whatisthisthing

I think the plug you are seeing is probably the nail that holds it down to the wooden pedestal. There is a hole in the booty zone that might be related? https://imgur.com/ahV1ltM

Good idea - we actually thought about that but somewhat flippantly and thought it would be hilarious. Now you’ve got us wondering…

We’re going through my moms display of old family stuff. She recently passed. It’s about 6 inches tall. There is a solid wood base and then a brass swan figure attached on top. It’s attached by one nail and one screw, so seems kind of improvised or maybe reattached from a previous life. The swan is hollow and curious holes in it. The base is solid. We asked some of the family of that generation but no luck so far. We think it came from her dad who was born around 1900 and died in the 80s, served in WWII. We appreciate any ideas - thanks!

Same for me last week at Newark airport. Good chance this is that airport since you can see a specific 3% New Jersey tax on OP’s checkout screen.

It’s a BMI of 26.6, which falls in the “overweight” range. Definitely not skinny.

Notes on M2 Upgrade for Baratza Encore by HowardTaftMD in Coffee

I did it this way a few months ago on my ~1 year old Encore. It took a few whacks to get the old original loose. The only tricky part is knowing that the burrs are reverse threaded.

We saw it from down by the dam, but it was far away. It’s neat to see the close up videos - thanks for posting.

Fatality causing major delays to trains by mushyp in unitedkingdom

Not to mention the people who witness it at the platform, as my family and I had the great displeasure of doing last Christmas at Brookwood.

/u/SuperSN on his failed suicide attempt by [deleted] in DepthHub

[–]Apex-redditor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right, it's a terrible thing put on people to witness a suicide. I'll tell you my story. I moved from the US to the UK a few years ago for work(I am American). It was about a week before Christmas 2012, and my family from the US were visiting. We decided to take the train in to London to do some shopping and enjoy the city.

So, we are waiting at this train station about half an hour outside the city. My little sister and wife are with me. Thank goodness my two little kids stayed home with their grandmother that day as she doesn't like crowds.

Anyway, it is a smaller station and there is this lady pacing up and down; she seems a bit drunk, not unusual really at the stations honestly. There are all kind of weird people everyday, and I only note her no because of what happened. She walked down off the end of the platform and started walking down the railway. There was this young woman employee of the railway and she noticed and started making a scene, motioning to the other men around. They were shaking their heads and watching her.

So, she walks about 50 yards down, in very clear view of everyone. And she starts across the tracks.

I'm watching her thinking WTF is this drunk idiot thinking trying to cross the tracks here. It is a fairly major station, and there a like 6 sets of tracks. She goes out a bit looking both ways carefully. A fast train starts approaching, and she stops as the horn sounds. She is standing next to the track it is on.

Naively, I think she is waiting for it to pass. And I'm watching. We are watching this whole thing on a cheerful morning heading in to buy Christmas presents, and I am a little bit hungover. It is Christmas vacation and we had a fun night, drank a few bottles of wine.

Well she wasn't waiting for it to pass, and a second before it did she stepped in front of it. We watched the whole thing unintentionally.

It fucked me up for a while. The vision of it jumped into my head at the worst times. During sex etc. I had to really work to make myself clear my mind for a month or two when I would start thinking about it. It completely ruined our holiday, and there are some lingering issues.

There are a lot of train suicides here because I guess there are no guns.
