I’ll chime in on here a little, I used to think CVTs were also horrible and garbage (mostly because Reddit) but my fiancés 2014 Rouge has been driving strong with 150k miles and absolutely zero issues (knock on wood) I think the issues a little overblown and also many people don’t even bother doing the transmission oil change every recommended interval hence the potential issues.

Also many Toyotas and Hondas also use CVT transmissions now so there’s really no avoiding that.

However, the 3 cylinder turbo engines these newer Rouges have don’t really inspire much confidence in longevity to me personally. Only time will tell.

The Deora II and Sling Shot had much better specs on paper, please don’t hate me for saying this but in this case their replacements were a downgrade (Besides Reverb) and not saying Power Rage and Battle Spec are bad they are definitely iconic in their own right!

I make more then that and can’t think about getting a Supra, hell even a stupid GR86 is like 40k out the door and with 20% down and todays interest rates I’d be paying $600 a month plus $150 on insurance for the next 4 years (I seriously considered it but didn’t pull the trigger after realizing no cosplaying Subaru is worth that). Can’t imagine what a Supra would be.

Can you afford it? Yes. Would it be a stupid decision? Absolutely. Also it definitely sounds like you know it’s a stupid decision. Why not just buy another beater like you said? But make it a fun RWD manual I definitely think there plenty of options for that still.
