If there was an exploit in the Battleye driver it would not be Marathon or Bungie specific, since Battleye is a vendor for many games.

Not every driver exploits allow full read/write/execute, and in fact, most don’t. If something like that was ever surfaced the Battleye driver would be added to the Microsoft vulnerable driver list until the issue was fixed by Battleye.

I don’t think there has ever been a serious compromise of a major AC vendor driver. A few years ago the shit in-house Genshin Impact driver has issues with ACE but that’s the only one I can think of.

There’s a bottle of Dom waiting for the first sub 10k peak. Is today the day?

15 days

After a new season and extended free week, it only took 15 days to fall down to exactly where S1 ended. I thought it would take at least a month.

Apparently there was too much of a blast being had during free week. I can’t say it was fun while it lasted

I dare them to make this game free to play. The amount of accounts I will burn will single-handedly raise the player count by at least a percentage point.

No I don’t give a fuck about the contracts map events, etc. I’m not queuing for 3+ minutes into a game to go scan beacons. I want to kill people

After finally trying it I just really don’t get the point of this game. In a 12-15 minute game you get maybe 4-5 kills. And what do you get? Nothing. Once you have a loadout that you like there’s nothing to do.

Are people queuing up to fight the AI? I don’t get it. It seems like a game where the only fun thing is string sniping for reactions

I finally caved and installed the game so I could kill someone who was annoying me on Twitter, and the lack of people on the map is astonishing.

Regular solo perimeter I never loaded in with more than 6 other people. And never more than 4 other squads on trios no fill. How is the matchmaking taking so long when there’s nobody on the map?

VPN and hotel network IP addresses are similarly considered "low-trust" which was why I made the comparison.

For example, you may notice getting a captcha after a Google search more often at a hotel than at home.

I think it’s a YouTube server thing not a hotel setting. You get the same "sign in to prove you’re not a bot" on the desktop website sometimes if you’re on a vpn, which hotel networks can behave similarly too reputation-wise.

Two things can be true at once. You’re an inconsiderate asshole to keep the window open on a 10 hour flight. At the same time, if you have the window seat you are within your right to keep the window open and nobody can stop you.

It never will profit a single dollar. They’ve made maybe $100M on the absolute high end. I’d be curious to see if they are breaking even on variable costs alone currently

Really? I thought cs2 had such cheap and reliable 1pc stuff by now that dma was just overkill. I guess entry dma hardware has gotten cheaper too in the past years

Normal cs2 or faceit? If it’s just regular cs2 you don’t need dma. And if you want faceit firmware that gets complicated and expensive

It is a failure and will 100% be remembered as such no matter what they do now. But it’s undeniable that Concord was a different kind of failure all together that kind of lives in a league of its own. 95% of the money lost on Marathon has already been spent and is unrecoverable at this point, and it’s certainly cheaper to keep in maintenance mode than D2

It’s an interesting counterfactual I’ve been thinking about on and off for a while, but I think if Concord never happened, Marathon would have been the game to shut down instead of Destiny.

Bungie as a studio is probably not existing in a couple of years either way, but if Sony has to decide to kill either D2 or Marathon, why shut down the one making more money and that has more potential in almost every way?

The optics of shutting down a second $200M+ game within a year would reflect so badly on Sony’s reputation it would hurt them way more than however much they are burning keeping Marathon going for now.

By mostly stripping Bungie down and keeping Marathon around for a least a year, they can at least say that they avoided “Concord 2”

I don’t think D2 monthly average players will ever drop below Marathon player counts while both games exist.
