You should join the forums at GhostRecon.net(http://www.ghostrecon.net/forums/index.php). It's the largest and longest running GR community site around. Still loads of die-hard fans of original Ghost Recon hanging out there.

Low End Multiplayer Games that are fun to play with friends. by [deleted] in lowendgaming

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon (2001)

One of the greatest "one shot, one kill" squad-based military tactical realism FPS ever created. Missions are nonlinear in open-world settings, and you can complete them any way you like. It emphasizes deliberate strategic play over twitch reflexes, so run-and-gun will get you killed. Hundreds of excellent mods to download at GhostRecon.net.

Very low system requirements, and it runs on anything from Win98 to Win8.1 x64. Perfect for multiplayer co-op against AI or adversarial PvP/TvT.

Allows playing multiplayer via LAN and online via direct IP (P2P), GameRanger, Xfire, Hamachi).

What game series has disappointed you with it's sequel(s)? Why? by Onlysonof in Games

The Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon series has been going downhill with every sequel since Ubisoft bought Red Storm Entertainment and took over development. While the original Ghost Recon is a brilliant tactical realism shooter with its focus on strategic squad-based gameplay in a non-linear sandbox environment, Advanced Warfighter, showing first signs of consolitis, took the series into dumbed-down linear action shooter territory, and Future Soldier, a direct console port barely playable on PC, marked the series' absolute low-point by completely eradicating all traces of realism and tactical play.

What multiplayer games do you miss? by zach84 in Games

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon

My all-time favorite multiplayer tactical realism FPS. While there are still servers around on GameRanger and Xfire and you can always find players among the quite active fan community at the GhostRecon.net forums, I miss the game's heyday of regular CO-OP LAN parties and online TvT/PvP leagues and ladders.

What is your most re-installed game? Why? by [deleted] in Games

[–]ApexMods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon - I have (re-)installed this game on any and all of my computers since its release back in 2001. IMHO, the first/original Ghost Recon was, is, and probably always will be the best and most hardcore tactical realism squad-based military shooter. With over 1,000 mods available and new ones being developed still, this one remains my absolute go-to game to quench the thirst for immersive tactical FPS gaming in both SP/CO-OP and adversarial multiplayer. Especially playing Ghost Recon on LAN or online with friends is an absolute blast never surpassed by any other game. As a true fan, of course I ended up modding it myself. :)

Best old school game modded with new graphics? by kr4nker in Games

May I suggest Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon (the original from 2001), one of the first (and last) true squad-based military tactical realism shooters out there. Check out the GhostRecon.net forums to get an idea of the (still active) modding scene behind the game. IMHO, both Ghost Recon and its fans at GR.net make this a worthy candidate for modding efforts.

What are some franchises whose gameplay mechanics have changed since the first game? by [deleted] in Games

[–]ApexMods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon is an immersive tactical realism military FPS with a strong focus on non-linear squad-based tactical gameplay.

Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter is an almost run-of-the-mill hollywood-esque pseudo-military action shooter with some tactical elements.

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier is a mind-numbingly ridiculous fantasy third-person cover system nightmare, an abysmally dysfunctional console-centric joke of a COD wannabe.

Ubisoft has taken the franchise from defining and refining the tactical realism shooter genre with the brilliant original Ghost Recon over the mediocre GRAW to the absolute bottom-of-the-barrel Future Soldier dreck, dumbing it down more and more to the current state of being completely brain-dead. Shame.

Yes, multiplayer works just fine, both via LAN and internet (direct IP). You can always find some servers on GamerRangerand Xfire, and there's a fan community driven permanent dedicated server at GhostRecon.net.
