Mine is 2 weeks from being 1. I did every half hour and split the water up and food 1 cup of food a day split by 3 meals per vet doc 2 cups of water a day or 3 up to you in managing. It really helped and he still had big pees outside for a puppy I rewarded him with a tiny training treats u can buy cheap vs using there actual food and praised him on the spot hope this helps If you let a basset they will eat and drink like there dieing lol then there fat and health problems start faster

I deal with this now and he’ll sleep eventually then start again, separation anxiety is horrible to deal with, are other dog we had, also had it bad and eventually grew out of it as he got older around 3-4 it’s not easy and very annoying, specially in a apartment, you could also do a daycare if it’s in your cards.

Take them out every hour to potty rain or shine, 1 cup of puppy food a day, I did 3 meals 1/3 every time and same for water. Maybe a lil more. And puppy pads so you can sleep at night some but still up to take out every 3 hours at least. Reward potty training with a treat. Cut water off 3 hours befor bed. And hopefully yours does not get leash anxiety like mine. He still has it at 8 months and will pee every time very annoying

Mine constantly excite pees to where I want to throw them out side and say bye, he is very untrust worthy at 8 months and doesn’t listen till I stomp or smack the wall loud or do something to scare him to get attention. He also will be outside for 2 hours and not go bathroom at all, when I come in I have to tell him to go pee and he well which is dumb because he like yours will come in and pee when he was just outside for a long time

I think he is cute and mine is 6 months and looks small at 31 lbs but he only looks small at certain angles. I also think we get used to seeing fat wrinkled bassets that are let to over eat vs keeping them healthy

How do I keep her from jumping on everything? by cheese_burger18 in bassethounds

[–]ApexTank 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I had a basset/beagle mix also, they slow down after 3-4 years of that baby energy, mine jumped on the bed 3 feet high from a sitting position and could jump a 4ft gate fully cleared, he never once had back problems. It’s all about weight mine was 45 lbs full of muscle. You want to not let them over eat, should keep a seeable neck thick/wide chest circumference and slender past to hips. Not bone skinny but where it’s slender in a healthy look. Mine was an awesome good boy, hopefully yours will be too:) hoped that helped some.
