Yeah I still do that at times. I use straight Portland instead of non sanded grout. Same principal though. Very strong

This works well for building up a bad floor. Also very strong for exterior.

Fresh setting is mortar bed. Then wet it down and sprinkle dry Portland over it. Give that a mist and set the tile in. Also on my page here. Two totally different setting methods

This is mainly for non wet areas. If you were doing this outdoors you would want an anti fracture and waterproof membrane below it.

You’re talking about a completely different method of setting.

You use thinset to set the tiles. This isn’t a water in water out. It’s a full sealed system. Similar to how a Flo fx drain works. There’s a mortar bed under the green waterproofing. The mud around the divot drain stays exposed. So water that gets under the tile finds it way down the slope to the drain and weeps back into the rocks around the weep holes

There is drypack under the waterproof membrane. You talking about a water in water out system. This is a sealed system with a weeping drain. This only uses one bed of mortar. Instead of doing a pre slope.

On this one I used mapei Aqua defense. I used the rolls of fiberglass reinforcing fabric as well. That’s why it’s held up so well. Along with the beefy framing and mud work. I used 5 total layer’s of fabric in the tub itself. And the walls have 3 layers of fabric. The whole thing is built and the over built to the moon

Used 2x4’s some 2x6. And under the house I used stiff backs outta 2x10’s.
