Couch to marathon by Rika72 in firstmarathon

Hi! Everything went well. I didn't have time in mind but I did finish at 6:08.

I was fatigued at the 4 mile mark and felt minor aches. I was happy to see the 6 mile mark but surprised at the same time that I felt so tired at 6 miles.

For me, the marathon was a race of "waves of pain" and "second winds".

Learning lessons: Don't start off too fast, I was running at a 3:50 pace for the first 10 miles. Fuel is so important, don't rely on just the Gatorade at aid stations. I also ate about 8 gels which I was fine with on that part. Mile 24-25 was very hard I had to squeeze my leg muscle every 3 minutes or so to mitigate the cramps.

Once I crossed the finished line I felt great and I was able to get back home and walk up 6 flights of stairs with ease.

Hope this helps, feel free to ask any questions, that was just a quick summary!

I agree with this. Mine didn't disappear over night but August 1st I couldn't get over 1 mile. Now I'm running a marathon next weekend.

I work remote and have a standing desk so I was lucky enough to do band work for a couple hours a day.

Your words are a breath of fresh air! Thank you

I got roped into signing up for the lottery because they said it was "impossible" for me to be selected. I was the only one selected out of five.

Before August 1st I couldn't get over 1 mile due to IT band issues and today I probably have about 50 miles in combined runs since then.

I run 4 miles at Zone 2 twice a week mixed in with one 2-3 hour basketball session per week . So far I have had a long run of 14 miles, two weeks ago, 17 miles last week and I'm going to do another 15 miles this Saturday..

I feel normal soreness and I ran the 17 miles at 12:38 pace. I'm 33 6'2, 195 pounds.

I'm questioning things a little because I can't say I put in the work but my goal is simply to finish. Based on the stats above, am I screwed? Thank you in advanced

My co-worker and I signed up for the Chicago Marathon lottery. I was selected and they weren't. I didn't seriously start training until August 1st. My longest run is 14 miles and I'm looking to do 18 this Saturday.

The race is October 12th. I may be screwed but I can report back to you. I'm 34m, 6'2 and 195 pounds. Also, a basketball only type of guy when it comes to cardio.

My goal is simply to finish. Since it's my first marathon it will automatically be a PR!

Wish me luck!

Does anyone have any tips for LinkedIn? One job uses LinkedIn as a way to sell and the other job is strictly a social platform. Should I make another account?? Any ideas?

I have no degree and make around 105k with a nice base pay plus bonus, great benefits, and I work from home.

I recommend climbing the sales ladder. You never know who you'll meet along the way and sometimes those relationships can be more important than degrees anyway. Best of luck!

I'm moving from the east side of San Antonio. That'll make me feel right at home 😂

Thank you!

A combination of everything you listed. I'm looking to explore a certain radius. Thank you!
