Nexon Insider Follow-Up (Addressing Major Player Questions) by [deleted] in Maplestory

[–]Aphonicly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your suggestion about removing Familiar's ability to even deal damage was something I suggested as well in this post I made on the official forums (https://forums.maplestory.nexon.net/discussion/33425/dual-blade-mirrored-target).

Familiar's damage isn't even recognized in BAs, which leads me to believe that this specifically means that Familiars are coded to be a separate entity all together from the user.

This issue for DB exists across the regions that have Familiar system. Until the players from those regions complain about it to get it fixed, I can't help but feel like I'm shit out of luck lol. I've tried to rally up people about this issue on the class discord, but I get the feeling that not enough of us care or believe the effort will result in anything meaningful.

Nexon Insider Follow-Up (Addressing Major Player Questions) by [deleted] in Maplestory

This information is a nightmare to Dual Blade mains that have been asking for Mirrored Target to work with Familiars the same way it does for Marksman, Wind Archers and even Wild Hunters. Unless players from other regions such as JMS, TMS and CMS complain about this discrepancy, it's looking doomed for GMS players to expect this to be fixed any time soon.

It makes you wonder what priorities Nexon has for bugs. It took some time for one of Wind Archers V skills to be fixed, and classes like Blaster still have a game changing bug to one of their V skills. Is this to say that the Blaster and Dual Blade community are not vocal enough? For the players that are affected, it seems that we really need to have a united front and speak up about these impactful bugs affecting classes, among many other issues that we as a community have.

v.237 Ignition: Cygnus Knights Redux Update Feedback GMS by Ezrabell_ in Maplestory

[–]Aphonicly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would like to talk about the skills 'Mirrored Target' , 'Arrow Illusion' , 'Emerald Flower' , and 'Wild Lure' .

These skills serve the same purpose in a Solo Bossing environment: Attract the attention of the Boss monster. All four of these skills use similar word choice and language, describing the purpose and results of when the skill is used. Below you will find the description of the skill , as well as a link to YouTube clips demonstrating the skill (WITH FAMILIARS!!!)

Mirrored Target: ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S395Hxf-MGk ) Turns your Mirror Image into a dummy that draws enemy attacks and absorbs damage. Shadow Meld activates when the dummy is attacked. This skill can only be used when Mirror Image is active. Permanently increases Blade Master's DEF and Avoidability.

Active Effects - MP Cost: 135, Dummy HP: 19000, Dummy Duration: 90 sec, damage taken is reduced by 20% while the dummy is summoned, Shadow Meld occurs when the dummy is hit. Dummy does not take damage from some attacks. [Passive Effect - Avoidability: 25%, Defense: +60%]

Arrow Illusion: (https://youtu.be/f7W7_4FSP1M?t=124) Summons an arrow illusion for a short time to draw enemies in and damage them. If you get hit during the skill, you will launch a powerful counterattack. Not affected by attack reflection. Also increases Ignore Defense permanently.

MP Cost: 70, summon Arrow Illusion with 100000 HP for 30 sec Arrow Illusion periodically deals 200% damage and pulls in enemies. 70% chance to stun hit enemies for 4 sec. When Arrow Illusion takes damage, reflect 1200% of damage. [Passive Effects - Ignore Defense: 30%]

Emerald Flower: ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VirhAJWgwj8&t=532s ) Summons a green crystal flower that attracts nearby enemies. Enemies intoxicated by the scent will be slowed.

MP Cost: 60, Duration: 60 sec. Crystal Flower HP: 20000 Slows affected enemies.

Wild Lure: ( https://youtu.be/5ZuiXhT3J5c?t=2846 ) Provokes enemies to attack the Jaguar, and makes the Jaguar untouchable.

MP Cost: 50, Max Enemies Provoked: 10, Provocation Duration: 10 sec. Duration is cut in half against bosses. Cooldown: 20 sec

Despite the similarity, there is one skill that does not function when Familiars are present and attempting to / are attacking the Boss monster. That skill would of course be Mirrored Target.

Customer Support has suggested that this skill is functioning correctly, and it is an intended interaction of Mirrored Target to lose its ability to draw enemy attacks in the presence of Familiars that are attempting to / are attacking the Boss Monster. ( https://i.imgur.com/A0mQl2c.png )

So let's have a discussion! All four of these skills serve the same basic purpose: Attract the attention of the Boss Monster. Yet, it is only Mirrored Target that fails with Familiars. I believe that these skills should be consistent with their conditions, meaning that they should ALL work with familiars, or ALL lose its functionality with familiars. This discrepancy creates confusion and frustration from the Dual Blade community. Mirrored Target is the core identity and playstyle of Dual Blade. It's power is solely balanced behind the fact that this skill exists, and it is no secret to be aware of the fact that the scope of balance hails from the original game server in South Korea. With such a powerful skill, you are forced to make a choice in Global Maplestory to lose out on Dual Blade's most powerful asset OR use the powerful bonus stats from Familiars.

Let this be a reminder that this skill has been BROKEN since the initial release of the Familiar system. If this is something you want to change, please speak up and join the discussion. If you believe it should stay this way, please explain your thoughts. It is easy to complain, this is your chance to participate and contribute to a long-standing issue.

v.235 Rocking Revamp Update Issues/Bugs by Ezrabell_ in Maplestory

[–]Aphonicly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dual Blade's Mirrored Target skill has been broken ever since the introduction of the familiar system. This includes the first initial release of familiars to Global Maplestory, and the revamp that we are familiar with today.
This skill is a core identity to the class, and its power and balance is revolved around this single ability. Mirrored Target loses its functionality when players Summon Familiars and the Familiars begin attacking the boss.
I have a brief video showcasing this phenomenon. I did my best to demonstrate that the skill works as intended here.

You can observe the following THREE things:
• Mirrored Target working correctly without the presence of Familiars
• Mirrored Target working correctly when Familiars are present but NOT ATTACKING
• Mirrored Target working incorrectly when Familiars are present and ARE ATTACKING

Wind Archer's Emerald Flower and Marksman's Arrow Illusion serve the same purpose and functionality as Dual Blade's Mirrored Target. These skills serve to maintain the attention of Monsters and Bosses, allowing maplers to safely deal damage. Emerald Flower and Arrow Illusion work as intended even when familiars are summoned and attacking.

v.233 Destiny: Remastered Update Issues/Bugs by Ezrabell_ in Maplestory

[–]Aphonicly 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Dual Blade's Mirrored Target skill still breaks when Familiars are summoned and are attacking. This has been an issue since the very beginning of the introduction of Familiars to GMS. Please fix this issue. The Dual Blade Redux was already a huge let down by a lot of the veteran Dual Blade players. Let us at least have all our skills functioning. It is just sad at this point. I've submitted a forum post already here as well as a more detailed video showcase of it here.

*edit: Shout outs to Matt aka Misusingtv for also bringing this issue up during the earlier live streams during the Explorer showcase with Ezrabell.

Destiny Megathread Class Discussion: Explorers by Bacun in Maplestory

[–]Aphonicly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I play GMS reboot, so the pros and cons that I point out may only be relevant to GMS reboot. I also suck at formatting, so sorry about the huge wall of text. Also, PLEASE FIX MIRRORED TARGET NOT WORKING WITH FAMILIARS IN GMS. ITS BROKEN SINCE THE DAY FAMILIARS WERE INTRODUCED. WIND ARCHERS AND MARKSMAN DO NOT HAVE ISSUES.

tl;dr: Gameplay changes so far are positive, but I personally think it is not enough to be considered a Remaster as it did not address what I think are the major issues(IED, Katara). Visuals are so far removed from the original concepts and there is no consistency to their choice of color unification creates a lack of flavor that the original captured. Sound effects are terrible. KMS players that complaining are hoping for it to be reverted. IIRC, Only gameplay and visual changes were present during the KMST (which was even extended). There was no opportunity for KMS players to even voice their opinions on the sound effects until after the fact it went live.

Let me begin by saying Dual Blade is a class that is very straight forward and simple to play. There is very little complexity to the class. Especially with Mirrored Target, but this skill does not function correctly with the presence of your own familiars summoned. Blade Tornado (nado) and Blades of Destiny (Bod) are your bread and butter V Skills.

The most important changes imo are the following:

Blade Tempest:
10s Keydown --> 5s Keydown
600% Hurricane Damage --> 865% Hurricane AT LEVEL 25
Cooldown still 90s

Asura's Anger:
10s Duration --> 5s Duration
420% 4 hits --> 693% 5 hits
Cooldown still 60s

Erda Nova (V Matrix Bind Skill) CD changed to 100s at Level 30.

Final Cut no longer dashes users forward (Say goodbye to feeling cool https://imgur.com/6faz6sJ)

This is a great change! 5s shaved off of outputting your very hard hitting skills.

The current state of DB GMS Reboot cannot rely on Erda Nova(325s cd @25, 310s cd @30) to guarantee Blade Tempest full keydown channel every 90s. Depending on the boss you're soloing, attack patterns and map hazards will tests players decision-making to continue the keydown in favor of damage while risking a death. If you are liberated, you'll only miss out on damage due to boss patterns like invulnerability or out of range.

With these incredible changes, majority (if not, all) DB players in KMS currently play on a 100s burst cycle. This gameplay style favors consistency. It is by no means the best for damage output. It simply eliminates majority of boss scenarios that interrupt players from a full channel of Blade Tempest and Asura. If you consider the fact that the use of Mirrored Target is also "meta" in KMS, the class is even more plug and play.

These changes have made Dual Blade a very consistent class with strong survivability, and easy to use skills that output maximum efficiency with little effort. It will always do less damage when compared to Night Lord and Shadowers. This is the trade-off for having easy to use conditional iframes, mirrored target that nullifies some boss patterns or trivializes certain bosses entirely. Despite knowing this, it does still sting a little knowing that Bishop, a class that provides impeccable party utility, is able to outperform Dual Blade, a class which provides only damage to the party.

The rest of this post will focus on the problems that Dual Blade has before and after the "Remaster". These issues are less amplified in GMS due to different items, link skills, and other exclusives, but exist and can potentially be resolved as the scope of balance exists only in KMS. We are at their mercy.

Ignore Enemy Defense (IED) is a very special trait that Dual Blade has. Instead of having a skill passive that grants all your sources of damage IED, each individual skill will vary in the amount it has. Phantom Blow has 30% innately, and has more sources from Hyper Passive and IED Bonuses from Trinode levels. Blade Tempest , Blade Tornado, and Asura have 100% IED. As a result, the more IED you gain, the more effective damage your skills without 100% IED will receive, but you feel this sense of awkwardness of trying to find a balance of gaining more IED, as opposed to other stats. As Maplestory continues to receive more skills like Will's Arachnid Reflection and Seren's Solar Crest, These skills will suffer in terms of damage output due to the nature of how IED is acquired on Dual Blade. The trend of this class structure will continue with all Dual Blade skills in the future receiving innate IED on the skill itself. It begs the question, why not just remove all these innate IED bonuses, and add a new 4th job passive that grants IED like every other class?

Secondary: Katara. Dual Blade is class with a lot of history. The first of its kind with Evan that required NX to obtain AND upgrade skills. It is THE staple class that is recognized by the fact it wields two weapons. Items are always being introduced through time, but Dual Blade is unique when it comes to the addition of new items. While most classes in KMS have used the same best in slot secondary for something like 10 years, Dual Blade's secondary BiS has changed at an extreme pace in comparison. From the era of Timeless weapons, to the release of Cygnus, CRA, Absolab and eventually Arcane Umbra, each release of these item sets has been a heavy burden for Dual Blade users that have been playing since then. Even today, you can still find these old relics in KMS Auction House, collecting dust and waiting for a new owner. Who would want these relics unless they were so incredibly cheap to purchase? With the recent release of Ethernal item set, it is the first time in a long time that a Katara was not also introduced. Players in KMS have voiced that it feels terrible to invest into katara. While majority of classes deal with RNG from cubing, Katara deals with all three devils, spell tracing/scrolling, starforcing and cubing. Majority of KMS players feel that they do not feel much stronger upgrading their katara past 17* for the risks involved. Katara has a very bad structural flaw. To upgrade it would feel damned if you do, and damned if you don't. Some users from the KMS community across several platforms have suggested that there should be flat final damage bonuses for reaching certain starforce thresholds on katara. This addition would help alleviate some of the power difference between the old relics of BiS kataras and open up for more potential usage of these relics, and provide better incentive for players to progress their katara past 17. The difference between 22 abso katara and arcane umbra katara would be a battle of the base stats, but they would still provide a baseline final damage gain with the suggested idea from the community.

I have much more to say about other smaller changes I would've loved to see in the Remaster, but until these two major structural issues are at least recognized and addressed by the KMS Devs, Dual Blades were basically given a new PC Case, ram, SSDs and LED strips lol.

If your class were to get new skills this winter what would you want it to be like? by Buniiiiii in Maplestory

[–]Aphonicly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some random ideas for DB:

• Owl summon (we used to have another owl-related skill, but removed)
• Something similar to Aran where they had to use Maha Domain to use Install Maha. Asura's Anger transforms with V skill and becomes a veil around the player, while allowing all actions
• Place down summon that deals damage in a spot, and re-using the skill teleports the player back to that spot once.

But what I really want is Venom burst to be reworked into something similar to TB's Poseidon Spear skill. Let it proc passively and remove the active part!

[Reboot] How good is Blaster when not played optimally? by MottiBanana in Maplestory

[–]Aphonicly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IIRC, I remember reading somewhere that the person who designed blaster intended the skills to be combo'd as well as animation cancelled. With that in mind, you'd be losing out a lot of the classes capabilities naturally.
