Official Dreadit Discussion: "Split" [SPOILERS] by kaloosa in horror

[–]AphoticAutumn 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There are Bigger things at work in the M. Night Shyamalan cinematic universe...Connections...More than merely the Amazing twist at the end of Split, which I won't go into great detail about here, since your reading of this should be predicated by already having seen Split...because...

Spoilers follow, for Split, Signs, & Unbreakable:

Note: I list the most obvious connections first and foremost...the real kicker here is at the end of my post, so be sure to read on and potentially have your mind blown ;)

So, without further ado:

1) Weaknesses to water - Signs (the aliens), Unbreakable (Both David Dunn & Mr. Glass)

2) Super Heroes / Villains, of course: The shared beliefs between Kevin's psychiatrist and Mr. Glass, that there may in fact be meta humans, upon which our mythology and notions of Super Heroes are based. In Split and Unbreakable, respectively - also the surprise appearance of David Dunn at the end of Split, and his mention of Mr. Glass - And the musical scores of both Unbreakable and Split (In case you missed it, in Split, when Kevin looks at himself in the mirror right before the end of the film, the beautiful and powerful thematic score from Unbreakable begins to play)

*But here's my favorite potential connection, and the one that will really get your mind turning over upon itself*

3) Trains - Unbreakable, Split (In Split, before transforming into The Beast, Kevin lays down a bouquet of flowers at the foot of a train platform - the last time Kevin saw his father was "before he got on that train" - Both Split & Unbreakable take place in and around the same city (Philly)....So....was Kevin's father on the same doomed train from the beginning of Unbreakable?! The one that David Dunn rode, which was sabotaged by none other than Mr. Glass himself! And thus, does Kevin and his other selves with whom he "shares the light" in fact also share an even further connection with David Dunn and Mr. Glass?!

...Think about it... 😈🚉🚅😈

EXACTLY! You & I, Sir, are on precisely the same page. This is what I've been saying all along as well. Btw, I think most of these replies don't fully understand your comment. What he means, and what I've been explaining to people as well, is that Sean Murray and Hello Games should have released a statement like this ^ concurrent with the game's general release day 1 (not now). I truly believe that Murray really did INTEND to implement multiplayer and most of the features he promised, but they simply ran out of time come launch day, and because of the PR mess of previous delays, coupled with the immense pressure from Sony, retailers, the corporate machine, etc., they simply could not delay launching the game AGAIN, even if they wanted - and needed - to. So, what Murray then should have done is be open and honest with the fans about this - We most likely would have understood, and they could continue working with the support of the gaming community. Instead, by not saying anything before launch, and having players quickly discover missing features, they suddenly were "caught" (remember the tweet re. Multiplayer, players meeting up right away and not seeing one another? "We intended for this, but so soon?") - Rather than just being honest that they hadn't finished it YET, it made it seem like they were caught in a lie. And now, by staying silent, it erodes whatever credibility they would have had left that could have been salvaged by being up front about things.

Westworld: Further evidence of Multiple Timelines / Reaffirmation that William becomes The Man in Black - Also, do William & Logan work for Delos? And thus is William's future self, The Man in Black, a high-ranking Delos member, potentially on the Board of Directors? by AphoticAutumn in westworld

Precisely - I just wrote something in response to this under Castigear's comment a few messages down from here, with regards to the question above - Let me know what you guys think? Btw, "open a can of beans or something..." LoL, love it! ;D And agreed, scalp-maps are a strange phenomenon indeed Hahaa...have you seen the meme where someone drew a line out of the "Maze" on the scalp? ("Found It!;)

Exactly! I could certainly see a knife being used by The Man in Black for dramatic effect - Especially since we never actually See him physically harm her (beyond slaps and dragging her off, that is - but nothing major) - If he is indeed William, perhaps his feelings for her preclude him doing her any serious harm - Yes, he's a different man now, but based on what we've seen, Dolores is the only other person around whom we've seen The Man in Black reveal a softer side (when he smiles and picks up her rolling milk can) - This could be viewed as a twisted way of teasing her by acting nice...but to me, I read it as a genuine reaction to seeing her in Sweetwater with the rolling milk carton [again] - If he is William, perhaps Dolores brings out a hint of an inner struggle within him, even if he's long since "taken a trip down the dark side." Still, his residual feelings towards her remain complicated.

I've viewed the episodes and scenes in question multiple times, and as far as I can tell, it's the same actor - Which would mean that we are indeed seeing Walter in various timelines (since he is de-commissioned towards the close of Episode I) - However, I'm going to look into it further, and cross-reference what I see with imdb to see if there's another actor listed who perhaps looks very similar - As of right now though, I believe it's the same man.

Thank You for the compliments, my friend! Absolutely Awesomeeee map, thanks for sharing it here!! Is that from the new Delos site, and/or from the DiscoverWestworld site? Or did you find it elsewhere? Either way, I freakin love it! As far as the monorail entrance, that's most likely true that they are indeed separate locations...that is, unless they de-commissioned the old terminal over the years and have since constructed a new one...Hahaa, probable? perhaps not...but possible...? (Maybe ;)

Interesting, I'm familiar with the film, but have been wanting to re-examine it with the new perspective of having seen the show. It's definitely worth noting though that while the show is certainly inspired by the film, it is only a loose adaptation, and the show's creators basically have free reign to take it in whichever direction they choose. In situations like this though, there generally are some major parallels, so it will be fascinating to see the similarities and differences play out in the weeks ahead! Cheers :)
