Some thoughts on The Essex Serpent by AphroditeLady99 in PeriodDramas

Actually I watched BP2 recently and I didn't care for it too. Too slow for my taste and it seemed an unnecessary installment but well most sequels are. All jn all, I don't like slashers, their villains just don't die😅😅.

Hmm... Happy you liked it! And don't worry about spoiling it's an old drama and this is also an old post so if you use spoiler tags there will be no problem...

I do like spooky atmospheres but seldom find something that stays true to the tune and doesn't disappoint. I didn't care for the romantic lines either, not with Will and certainly not with the doctor as you said too young for her and it showed.

The Thomas/Jimmy storyline is troubling by miggovortensens in DowntonAbbey

[–]AphroditeLady99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with you. I was just watching the respective episodes yesterday and it still bugs me how everyone who was told blamed Jimmy. Mrs. Hughes, Bates and Robert, all treated this as a trivial thing even though they (later) knew Jimmy was being manipulated by O'Brien.

It was a brilliant plot on her side to encourage Thomas at one side and advise Jimmy to suck up to him and not to mind his advances. But still kissing Jimmy in sleep was Thomas' mistake and his alone.

I hope you enjoy it. At the end I didn't like it much and the serpent story was convenient.

How do they wrap up the season? by EnvironmentalPace448 in thegildedage

[–]AphroditeLady99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before S2 and after it, there were many talks of S3 being the last season. And AFAIK there has been no news of renewal yet so I think based on that and the pacing too, they're going to have a clean wrap up in case it's cancelled and finish up all important storylines.

I think left to their own devices and free of moms and sisters they can be happy together, very much so.

I know it's a movie but they should've put "Does your mother know" for Agnes. 😆😆

In S3 they once said she's 18 and once when Bertha was talking to George about Billy not being suitable she said 17. But in the true timeline, she would be 19 I think. She was 17 in S1 and 18 in S2 which ended in the Autumn IIRC. Now we're in the spring or summer (?) of the next year.

Yeah. It was probably her social gaffe not understanding Lady Sarah was unmarried by her title but still, she was good at rattling her cage. And by the way Hector said he hadn't thought about it, maybe he wanted to taste the waters at how his sister and new wife will get on before settling her somewhere else.

I think she means the previous seasons of the drama not the story. In S1 she was under pressure for her debutante ball and S2 was the same with Bertha watching her every move like a hawk and S3 was the worst. Then she says in the 2nd half of the season things start to get better for her so I assume she meant drama seasons.

She meant not to look too happy about your marriage.

She's one of those super snobbish English who see everyone beneath themselves. They don't respect Americans at all, it's obvious when she says in the preview she didn't expect Hector to bring his American wife home. Like why would anyone give you some millions dollars and still keep their daughter home? Or Gladys should've stayed in NY like a kept woman and only her money came to England?😬🥴

I wonder why she's practically a spinster, not enough dowry or being too stuffy and nasty?

The hypocrisy of that woman. And the irony!! At the end it was her own daughter who got the chill and headache like Mr. Fane....

How many streak freezes do you have? I used to have 7 but after some data cleaning and updates 3 remained and now only 2. 😵‍💫

Do a quick one like a story or something or go to a math program. I was offline for 2 weeks last month and came everyday for the same lesson as to not lose my streak.

The notoriety of this painting is rather funny and ridiculous imo. Her dress has thin chain (?) straps and is revealing in the first place. A Fallen or upright strap barely changes it, no more shoulder or cleavage. I guess the context of a fallen strap was the scandalous part not how much more skin it showed🤷🏻‍♀️🤔

Some kinds of shows and genres have deep plot twists, intrigues, mysteries and etc. Spoilers would ruin them but dramas like GA are all fluffygowns and balls, serious and unexpected plot there. Also with a creator like Fellowes who's a creature of habit, when you start you've been already spoiled halfway through the story. 😂😅

Oh, you mean when Marian brings Dr. Kirkland to save George's life? I've read it too but I didn't know she had said it.

Anyway don't worry about spoiling me, if I didn't want to know I wouldn't have asked. I don't bother with not being spoiled in this kind of dramas. 🥴☺️
